@echetus The British press needs "leak the stuff we can't publish to the New Yorker or Fox News" to be part of its playbook, frankly. That UK law actually succeeds at censoring nationally-significant news in the age of the internet is really quite surprising.
@patio11@politicalmath It was surely the most ludicrous, murderous excess of wokeness in all history - a major policy literally selected for the purpose of causing white people to die, without any counterbalancing benefit to other races - yet somehow never got the attention many far pettier issues did.
@patio11@politicalmath Projected to cause more deaths OF ALL RACES, indeed. But it was worth killing some black people as long as, by doing so, you could ALSO kill many more white people, since killing 1 black and 10 whites represents an overall improvement in "health equity".
@KyleButcher@BarbaraRich_law Alas that case's judgement does not seem to be available for free anywhere on the internet for a prole like me to read; I guess you have access to it through Westlaw or Lexis? But anyway, the outcome you describe certainly sounds potentially reasonable/correct to me!
@KyleButcher@BarbaraRich_law@Jebadoo2 That is: as long as he had it to protect the innocent, as Sikhism requires, a "religious reasons" defence held. But when he planned to turn the blade UPON the innocent, his possession of it was contrary to that very same religious duty, and his defence duly evaporated.
@KyleButcher@BarbaraRich_law@Jebadoo2 Though I'll note that the practical nature of the duty to carry the kirpan DOES align very well with the line that "that reason must have come to an end after you removed it from its sheath".
@BarbaraRich_law@Jebadoo2 (I am skeptical this is a sensible application of statute as written; IMO it would make more sense if he were NOT convicted of a possession offence but DID get the 25y start point under the alternative condition in SA2020 Sch21 4(2)(b). But that's just my opinion as a layman.)
@morallawwithin It's a mix of unironic brilliance and irritating, cringe-worthy garbage. IMO there is too much of the latter to call the work good overall but the great bits still stick with me. I long for what Yud could've done with a thoughtful editor.
