We should never underestimate the power of our own prayers.
When faced with some need, we should not forget to pray for it.
We should remind others of the power of their prayers, encouraging them to request G-d’s blessings whenever they are needed.

We should never be fazed by any seeming obstacle in fulfilling G-d’s directives or accomplishing our divine mission.
Rather, we should recall that G-d has arranged matters long in advance to enable us to accomplish our divine goals in the most optimal manner possible.

Yitzhak Rabin, the late Prime Minister of Israel, was at a yechidut (private audience) with the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
“How are you?” the Rebbe asked him warmly.
“I can’t complain,” Prime Minister Rabin responded, “life is good.”
The Rebbe replied, “It is true that our sages teach: ‘Who is rich? One who is satisfied with what he has,’ but this applies only to material wealth.
“When it comes to spiritual matters, however, one must never be content with one’s current state. No matter how much one has achieved, one must strive for more tomorrow.”

The mitzvah of lighting the Shabbat candles is given to the woman of the home for she sets the foundation of the Jewish home.
She ensures that the home has an atmosphere conductive for spirituality and G-dliness.
It is therefore appropriate that she be the one to bring in the extra light into the home.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, adds that by lighting the Shabbat candles, the women are channeling the light of Hashem into the world and bringing us closer to the final redemption.
One of the most important and most beautiful Mitzvot is the lighting of the candles before Shabbat and Yom Tov, and it was given as a special privilege to Jewish women, mothers and daughters.

THIS WEEK’S TORAH PORTION IS PARSHAT SHELACH.
***
FROM THE TEACHINGS OF THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON:
[Joshua and Caleb said to the people,] “Do not fear.” (Shelach 14:9)
Since time immemorial, those who aspire to do what is right have faced opposition and even ridicule.
The Code of Jewish Law begins with the instructions: Do not be embarrassed by the mockers.
When G-d is with us, there is no reason for fear.
The same response applies not only to fear of others, but to fear for our spiritual well-being.
***
Other than Joshua and Caleb, the spies were afraid that engaging in material life in the Promised Land would undermine the people’s ability to lead holy lives.
Since G-d is with us, aiding us in our mission to transform the physical world into his home, there is no reason to fear.
We can indeed infuse Divine consciousness into all aspects of life, down to the most mundane.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER WRITTEN BY THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON, DATED 25 SIVAN, 5712:
In truth, having the attribute of trust in G-d means that even if according to the laws of nature one sees no way out, in one's mind it is beyond all doubt that everything will be good, in a way that is actually visible and manifest to fleshly eyes, with regard to having an ample livelihood, sound health, and so on.
From the perspective of the world Above, considerations of nature are quite immaterial.
Accordingly, once a person raises himself up and adopts a stance that is even slightly above the ground — that is, he brings himself to the realization that since he is a believing Jew, he is utterly certain that there is no master over him but G-d alone — he can draw down and actualize this certainty here, too, so that in this physical world, too, considerations of nature will not affect him adversely (G-d forbid).

FROM THE TEACHINGS OF THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON:
Having trust in G-d, requires more than mere belief that since G-d orchestrates every detail of existence at every moment, whatever happens to you will certainly be for the very best.
Rather, to have trust in G-d means to be at ease and trust that G-d will grant you goodness in the most obvious sense of the word.
***
How can you be confident that G-d will indeed bless you with revealed good?
“Even if one is not worthy on his own accord, trust in G-d draws down gratuitous kindness from above upon he who trusts in G-d.” (Sefer Haikkarim)
Fervent trust in G-d makes a person worthy of G-d’s Blessings.
If one genuinely trusts that he is in G-d’s good hands, and therefore not subject to any natural limitations, then he can be certain that G-d will guard him and provide for him in a revealed way – even if he is not necessarily worthy of this for any other reason.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER WRITTEN BY THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON, DATED 26 TEVES, 5725:
As you well know, the matter of Hashgocho Protis [Divine Providence] is the basis of true monotheism, a concept which to us means not only that G‑d is one, but that there is oneness in the whole of Nature.
In other words, the whole universe has one Supreme Being, Who not only is the Creator of everything, but also is the Master, continually supervising every detail of his handiwork.
The corollary of this is that there cannot be a single point in the whole order of the world which is separated from the Supreme Being, or in any way not subject to His control.
At the same time it is obvious that the Supreme Being is also the Essence of Perfection and Goodness.

The matter of Bitochon, trust in G-d, is not an abstract thing, but a real feeling that should fill the mind and heart with the awareness of G‑d’s proximity and closeness at all time and under all circumstances, in every aspect of one's daily life.
Surely you know the emphasis which Chassidus places on the idea of Divine Providence, which extends to everyone and everything individually, and that it is a benevolent Providence, inasmuch as G-d is the Essence of Goodness, and that, as a result, every Jew should and is able to serve G-d with joy and gladness of heart.

Invested in the idea of tikkun olam, repairing the world, an aspiring activist asked the Lubavitcher Rebbe, “Should I focus on making myself better, or should I concentrate solely on changing the world?”
The Rebbe responded, “You cannot fix the world unless you begin with yourself first. Start with yourself, then your family, then your community, then your country and from there, the world: one step at a time.”

THIS WEEK'S TORAH PORTION IS PARSHAT BEHA'ALOTCHA.
***
FROM THE TEACHING OF THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON:
G-d spoke to Moshe, saying:
Speak to Aharon and say to him:
"When you fire up the lamps, (of the menorah, the wicks should be angled so that) the seven lamps cast their light towards the center (lamp) of the menorah." (Beha'alotcha 8:1-2)
We are taught that, "Man's soul is a lamp of G-d." (Proverbs 20:27)
It was the Ba'al Shem Tov's mission to explain and proclaim that every Jew without exception is connected with G-d.
This message is conveyed by the opening of Parshat Beha'aloscha, where G-d instructs Aharon to "fire up the lamps."
Firing up the lamps represents finding the "switch" within every Jew, igniting the fiery love of G-d which lies dormant in the soul.
Aharon the Kohen Gadol represents the Jewish leaders of every generation who are empowered by G-d with special talents to find the "switch" in every Jew and help them become connected with their own internal spiritual "power house."

You should think to yourself, there is so much to accomplish in our world.
So many capabilities can be found within every single person.
Due to the large amount of work that must be done, we cannot give up on even one capability or on one talent.
It is the purpose of every single person to accomplish everything that they are able to, to improve their surroundings.

THE FOLLOWING IS AN EXCERPT FROM A LETTER WRITTEN BY THE LUBAVITCHER REBBE, RABBI MENACHEM MENDEL SCHNEERSON:
The most essential aspect of the concept of the yoke of the Torah and mitzvot is that although the Torah and mitzvot have been given for the benefit of man, both in this life and in Eternal Life, there is an infinitely greater quality with which G‑d has endowed the Torah and mitzvot.
This is the quality of uniting man with G‑d, the created with the Creator, who would otherwise have nothing in common.
For, by giving man a set of mitzvot to carry out in his daily life, G‑d has made it possible for man thereby to attach himself to his Creator, and transcend the limitations of a limited being, living in a limited world.
The Torah and mitzvot constitute the bridge spanning the infinite abyss separating the Creator from the created, enabling the human being to rise and attach himself to G‑dliness.

An academic once visited the Lubavitcher Rebbe to discuss his questions in Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism.
The Rebbe offered:
“Studying Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism as if it were a secular field, like mathematics or physics, is futile. The way to understand the depths of the mitzvot is to perform them. These actions, repeated many times, will form the basis for the knowledge that you are seeking.
“Imagine you never tasted sugar, and you read many books on how sweet sugar is. It’s all theory until you actually put a sugar cube into your mouth, at which point no more explanation is needed.”
