Muhammad Jalal: how Israel is potentially losing American public opinion I mean opinion polls especially those that are conducted amongst younger Americans seem to demonstrate that they've lost public opinion I mean what does that tell us about the future of the viability of Israel when it's losing public opinion in such a in such a broad way.
Professor Norman Finkelstein: well I think one of the reasons why it did lose public opinion among young people in particular it's because Gaza was a metaphor for their own lives really a powerless hopeless futureless people abandoned by everybody and the object of this unstoppable juggernaut of power and that's young people so I think there was a deep sense of identity with the powerless the objects of a merciless juggernaut of power I think there was uh Gaza became a metaphor for a large part of humanity and Israel not just as a metaphor it's a reality a place that's basically a for an American it's not the Jewish for young Americans it's not it's a white supremacist state.
you know especially for young people who were reared on this wokeness I was very anti woke but this aspect of it wasn't the worst I believe that they saw Israel as a kind of a white supremacist state.
uh a kind of uh Trump writ large so they were going to be anti Israel not I don't believe they had anything whatever I don't believe it had anything whatever to do with the fact that Israel is a Jewish state because Israel was this utterly ruthless uh heartless merciless state uh that's what and that's and when you were starting out identifying what used to be called the have nots uh it was not surprising that they would feel alien from this state.
which showed no mercy and our system now I see it and that was Israel in Gaza it was this in your face ruthlessness.
which is same thing with Donald Trump you know he says to Oman we're gonna bomb the shit out of you.
what is that?
you don't know whether to laugh at this guy this retarded ape, this retarded ape the way he talks it's because of that ruthlessness.
this in your face heartlessness as I said you see it domestically you see it at every level of interaction in our society now you have no recourse no Protection and then you see it at the highest level of power in the US with a president who is a retarded ape.
then you saw it in Israel it was it was a real life in real time on the social media genocide it was kind of it was kind of shocking .
Images and video have been shared showing smoke billowing from structures at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh after a nighttime barrage of ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis.
Muhammad Jalal: you're from New York and of course there's been the rise of the democratic socialist movement within the Democratic Party we've seen Mayor Mamdani of course who was elected as mayor of your city we've seen in the primaries across the country at notable victories with people like uh Sayeed and others um how do you assess the movement this movement within the Democratic Party which very much does um echo Gaza and echo Palestine as as one of its rallying calls is that a are these promising signs or do you see uh potential challenges with this with this sort of democratic uh pro movement with or movement within the Democratic Party.
Professor Norman Finkelstein: there's all constituents out there in the United States that's ready for radical change I can see that because there's a whole generation that has no future.
Muhammad Jalal: is it radical enough ?
Professor Norman Finkelstein: the problem is not whether it's radical enough I think the young people are ready they're honestly I think they're ready for a revolution because the future is so bleak they're ready for a revolution the problem is they don't have the institutional power.
the Democratic Socialists of America which I was skeptical of right I knew people in it I was skeptical of it uh they have Learned how to organize.
no question in my mind about it credit given where credit due they know how to win elections
no question in my mind about that
the problem is this right now they've Learned the art of organizing to get good people elected.
I think these are good people they're smart much smarter than the first generation
the first generation people like AOC and Ilhan Omar not very smart
New generation you take somebody like uh Abdul El Sayed he was captain of his football team in high school captain of his baseball team full scholarship to university of Michigan Rhodes Scholar top academic honor in the United States Rhodes Scholar then full scholarship to Columbia Medical School top medical school in the US no can't he's very arrogant but you know what he earned arrogance he did a very accomplished young man and then he was you know public health official a very you know it's a it's an impressive crop of people there's no question the problem.
Muhammad Jalal: do you feel that the America first position is very much an immoral position it's it's really a political position in and it it just so happens that the manner in which Israel uh has effectively taken over American politics.
Professor Norman Finkelstein: I don't think it has yeah, I I don't subscribe to those sorts of notions that it's taken over yeah US policy um
Trump has been erratic on that particular question right.
I don't know a slogan like America First I'm a person of the left it doesn't mean anything to me.
what does America first mean: the people who run the country who own the country they already are first yeah they're called the billionaire class they already are first,
Trump is part of that class.
So when you talk about America first as if that's not what America is well 80% of Americans now are not profiting from the system About 20% are profiting from the system, 20% are doing fantastic.
80% of you are living in the United States 80% are barely getting by, now you live in New York City which I'm quite familiar with but 80% have no jobs nothing you know my day what did a job mean, a job meant 40 hours a week uh Saturday and Sunday off it meant um a pension it meant holidays it meant sick days that doesn't exist anymore that's all gone for 80% of New Yorkers so I don't know what these slogans America First means it's as if we're uh uh we're all in the same we're all in the same in group no we're not.
Those America First those are just rhetorical devices to try to create a constituency based on a notion of we're all in this together but we're not in this together.
I mean that's just so I those slogans mean absolutely nothing to me and then still I wouldn't put America first I put suffering humanity first.
Muhammad Jalal: You were recently on the Tucker Carlson Podcast and until recently until uh maybe a few years ago someone like Tucker Carlson would be very much a safe supporter of Israel um do you consider this rightward shift uh on Israel which has become far more favorable towards a Palestinian position probably I suppose the most significant realignment in American politics since the start of this genocide.
Professor Norman Finkelstein: that's a tough question for me to answer I think there have been several figures on the right who have realigned themselves I can think of Candace Owens Tucker Carlson Megan Kelly and Margaret Taylor.
I'm not certain that it goes much beyond that I could be mistaken but I don't know if it goes much beyond that and it's hard to say whether it's a realignment based on principle or a realignment based on the fact that public opinion has shifted so radically.
Alex Thompson: It seems you care a lot more about how Israel treats Muslims than how China treats Muslims.
Piker: Yeah, because Israel is murdering not just Muslims, but Christians as well, with my tax dollars.
Saudi Arabia requested that the Syrian government send troops and fighters for deployment to Yemen to fight the Houthis, but Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa rejected the request, according to Türkiye Today, citing Syrian and Turkish sources.
“Syria is in the process of rebuilding its army and is not ready to become a party used in a war,” al-Sharaa was quoted as saying.
RIYADH — For Saudi Arabia’s political and business elite, the strategic defense pact with Washington was supposed to end the era of ambiguity; instead, the latest Houthi attacks have revived a far more uncomfortable
Question: what, precisely, did Riyadh purchase with billions in American arms, open airspace and diplomatic cover.
If the United States responds to threats on Saudi soil with intelligence support while rushing to defend Israel with military force?
The answer, analysts and insiders suggest, is not a guarantee but a hierarchy—one in which Saudi security is negotiable, Israeli security is not, and Riyadh must now hedge by courting Pakistan, Turkey, China and even Iran while insisting publicly that its most important alliance remains intact.
The question now haunting the majlis and the boardroom is not whether the Houthis can be deterred, but whether the House of Saud has been left holding a gilded receipt for a promise Washington never intended to keep.
No matter how fiercely they try to erase the Palestinian people, no matter how desperately they try to bury the name “Palestinian,” it cannot be erased.
It will rise in the sky—whether you believe it or not.
We see the battle between influence and Zionism.
But reality has already spoken: truth always wins.
And the Palestinians will stand forever.
Palestine will stand forever.
Palestinian human rights lawyer Noura Erakat was arrested in Florida after speaking against a billion-dollar investment in Israel Bonds during a public budget hearing. At least 100 residents protesting the investment were also forced to leave the hearing.
I’m tired of watching our community continuously platforming Somali politicians in the West who have shown little meaningful commitment to Somalia or the interests of Muslim.
We celebrate them simply because they’re Somali, then act shocked when they stab us in the back.
Nadia Sawalha: “Why we are in the mess that we’re in is because antisemitism is thrown at people and they’re expected to not say anything further. Well let’s just have the debate then. I’m not antisemitic, I’m anti this vile Israeli government. The Palestinians live under apartheid. Every single part of their lives is controlled. They’re surveilled. We have how many thousands upon thousands of Palestinian hostages in prisons, in torture camps”
