Tales from a Veteran (a 🧵):
Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, December 2019
Our Combat Engineer Company had been on ground since RIP (Relief in place) in late July. Part of the RIP intel was the potential for an enemy's MDCOA (Most Deadly Course of Action) to BAF; a VBIED initiated complex attack with follow-on with suicide bombers armed with different weapons. This attack was to target a specific portion of the Eastern outer base perimeter wall. Part of our leadership briefing was observing other base footage of these attacks happening
My platoon was tasked with providing an augmented version of Route Clearance and Security for three US Marine Corps Ground Liaison Teams partnered with the Georgian military, and three Czech Airborne Infantry Platoons. As a Staff Sergeant, I led a squad ten soldiers, and we were assigned one platoon of each to support. Due to the unique task-organization of this situation, I worked directly with both platoon leaders to plan and lead missions.
Upon our arrival, we conducted a few base-wide exercises to train and prepare for a variety of base attack scenarios. At this point, incoming rockets were
a regular occurance, and throughout our entire deployment, no one was hurt from these. Unfortunately, all the different exercises did not prepare us for the attack we received.
Pretty amazing how a 24 year old with an iPhone and the courage of a lion has uncovered more fraud than all of the government oversight organizations combined.
@nickshirleyy is the MAN!
