CFB National Championship Preview & Prediction
Ohio State Buckeyes vs Notre Dame Irish
Prediction: over 45
The CFB National Championship is finally here after an extended playoff bracket which resulted in a matchup between possibly the hottest team in the country and one of the nation’s top Defenses. The Ohio State Buckeyes have been clicking on all cylinders after offensive coordinator Chip Kelly finally grew a pair and started using this offense pretty much the way it was built to be used. Opting to pass more on standard downs the Bucks have been aggressive and efficient since their loss to the Team with a name that must NOT be spoken. Not by an Ohioan at least. Witnessing the breakout of Freshmen Jeremiah Smith has been extraordinary. The young stars 1,227 yards was good enough for the 7th most in the nation and he has been an absolute stud in his first CFB Playoffs experience. However, the Horns found a remedy in the Cotton Bowl bracketing the star receiver the entire game and ultimately held Smith to just 1 catch for 3 yards. A result Marcus Freeman will surely try to replicate. Defensive Freshmen of the year CB Leonard Moore will have his hands full but he is exactly the kind of player the Irish would want to have the responsibility of slowing down Smith and the Buckeyes. He tallied 10 pass break ups and 2 picks this season yet was kinda quiet in their Semifinals victory over Penn State. Smith’s minimal performance however did not defer the @OhioStateFB Buckeyes at all. They instead turned to the numerous other play makers on the team and they came through in the biggest moments. Something Ryan Day has a ton of pride in. State should see some success through the air for Will Howard has torched man defense at times with an above 60% success rate. I also think they a primed to have a big game on the ground with Judkins looking better than ever and the explosiveness of Henderson should allow them to move the chains and score in the red zone. The Irish often struggle to get their opponent down at first contact so we should see State exploit them at times. On the other side of the ball I think Notre Dame will see some success on the offensive side as well. They have a stable of running backs of their own and QB Riley Leonard adds another angle of attack for one of the best rushing attacks in the FBS. We all know OSU can defend the pass yet they did show some vulnerabilities against Texas and we should have seen more points in that one than we did with Texas being stuffed on the 1 and failing to score in the red zone. Both QB’s have excelled against the former’s coverage schemes so we should see some methodical drives from both sides. While I think and hope Ohio State wins I think the better bet is on the total. I just think it is a lil too low considering the strengths of both offensives and the vulnerabilities of their defense. Ohio State is red hot, and they have been playing with more pace of late which could also lead to more points. Take the over 45, the Bucks can get over half of that on their own. #CFBPlayoff #CFBChampionship #GoBucks #GoIrish #OSUvsND #BuckeyeNation #SportsBettingX #GamblingX
