"I’ve never fell off a big chimney. You only fall off one of them once."
Steeplejack Fred Dibnah, back in 1979. He became a national treasure for doing this sort of thing.
Ukraine’s position, our opinion, our perspective, our narratives, and our needs must be present and clearly communicated in podcasts, on social media, and through bloggers and influencers. At the same time, they must also be present in every traditional media outlet that still has influence, continues to be cited, carries political weight, and has a real ability to keep the spotlight on Ukraine – and thus strengthen support for Ukraine and respect for our community within the country.
To ensure that Ukraine always gets results, you and your key embassy staff must speak the same language – in every sense – as those who make decisions and can help. Our diplomatic service has a traditional, longstanding weakness: when it comes to every language other than English, we face a shortage of proficiency. Please develop systemic solutions capable of changing this. You must have a deep understanding of the values, holidays, and pain of the people in every country where you serve, understand their culture – and know their language.
Ambassadors also need to know more about what is happening in Ukraine and how. You need to visit Ukraine regularly, share in Ukraine’s life, and feel what Ukrainians are going through. Every Ukrainian ambassador must know what the front is like, what life is like in a frontline or border community, and what it is like to rebuild after attacks. Every ambassador must feel what it is like when air defense launchers are empty and the Russians are launching ballistic missile attacks.
With all of this in mind, replacements within the embassies must be selected and prepared more carefully. Those returning to Ukraine must be offered positions at a level that truly reflects their contribution to Ukraine’s shared result, the experience our people have here, and the experience an embassy staff member has gained in the country where they served. Otherwise, we risk losing experienced professionals from the diplomatic service – something we cannot afford.

Went to a movie theatre which didn't have reserved seats for a first date. We did not get a seat next to each other and had to sit on different rows. Enjoyed the movie and never saw her again.
It is no surprise that Trump‘s behavior towards US’ allies especially when it comes to Ukraine has been politically an absolute disaster. Economically, it is equally disastrous. While US defense companies are losing in value in the Dow Jones, European companies are surging by 40%, with no end in sight. We are looking into trillions of Euros or USD in additional funds of which US defense contractors will not see much, thanks to Trump’s wrong decisions.
This applies to security guarantees which were not a side dish but the core why many countries around the globe purchased US hardware. They were literally the reason why some countries preferred to buy American.
Quote from the article:
„Security guarantees are the unbeatable sweetener that Washington has historically used to clinch most deals. Many countries, including a large number in Europe, have bought U.S. weapons precisely because they came with U.S. security guarantees. The guarantees were not just the sweetener: They were at the core of the deal.“
Trump’s first days in office have been an absolute train wreck. If this continues then by the end of this decade the USA will be diminished, politically, militarily and economically.

Bob Mortimer almost killed me once.
On the May 5th, 1995 I couldn't breathe for laughing as Bob portrayed George Michael in this Stars in Their Eyes sketch on The Smell of Reeves and Mortimer.
To get to the church involves a 15 minute walk from Bradwell. On a summer’s evening it is one of life’s little treats to toddle out and sit by the sea. Birds and boats usually mean you’re not alone. A magical place.

Moved into a new house next to elderly lady. One weekend there was milk outside. Called a cop round. He asked me for a hammer. He used it to smash the glass just as the old lady driven by her son pulled into the street. First time I met my neighbour was to ask for my hammer back
@EdConwaySky@UKLabour@Conservatives Yes, and most confusing. Voters see spending as a +ve and the government’s deficit as a -ve , guess they got caught up in this confusion.
