I've received disturbing news about civil & criminal cases brought against the Centro de Incidencia Ambiental (CIAM) de Panamá & the Asociación Adopta el Bosque Panamá following complaints by Ocean Pacific Financial Services, in relation to the company's Puerto Barú Project. The complaints strongly appear to have been brought in retaliation for the legitimate work of the organisations to protect human rights & the environment in line with the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders. The State must ensure they can do this work without fear of reprisal, in conformity with article 9 of the Escazu Agreement. I call on the cases to be dropped and for all restrictions on their bank accounts & property to be withdrawn @CancilleriaPma @juancanavarro

New El Niño forecast just dropped… and it’s a whopper! Maybe the strongest on record. For real!
The European model seasonal forecast just released and it shows record Aug-Oct tropical Pacific sea surface temperature warmth at 2-3°C above normal (~ +5°F) in the central-east Pacific. The record for Aug-Oct is +2.2°C in 2015. Euro hints we surpass this (3.4 region).
So what does this mean for #Florida and the South? First, good news: look at the Atlantic, it’s cool-ish relatively speaking. “Relative” matters big time in weather. Odds are this means a pretty quiet hurricane season overall and a lower likelihood of US landfalls. 2nd: next fall and winter may be Very active with rounds of severe weather, tornadoes and heavy rain/ flooding due to an invigorated subtropical jet stream. Central Florida’s largest tornadoes happen in El Niños (1966 and 1998 for example). Lastly, El Niño takes warm water stored deeper in the oceans, brings it to the surface and releases it into Earth’s atmosphere. This gives a big jolt to Global average surface temperatures. 2027 will be the warmest year on record for Earth in the history of modern humans, but even 2026 now has a chance of eclipsing that record by December. #elnino

ERA-5 data is in. March was indeed the warmest on record in the US. But what’s even more astonishing is the trend. Since 1940 March in the US has warmed 7.2°F (that’s like 9° per century and accelerating!) Do the math on what this means for future generations if it continues. The pace of warming is remarkable.

I'll never forget how the Israelis bombed al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza in October 2023 and the world was shocked and horrified. Israel denied it, saying they would never commit such a heinous crime.

Then they went on to bomb every single hospital in Gaza.

Now they are doing the same in Lebanon and Iran. The Israelis have bombed at least 128 medical facilities and ambulances across south Lebanon. In Iran, the US and Israel have bombed 25 hospitals and medical centres.

In Lebanon, they are committing double tap strikes to kill medics and rescue workers, just as they did in Gaza. Medics are forced to delay their responses.

These monsters are normalizing war crimes that were once unthinkable.
