@LolaBlahnicks09@NextBestPicture@diggerthemovie@AmyHayneKim He wasn't actively campaigning for that honorary Oscar, so the spotlight wasn't entirely on him. However, it is highly likely that the competition will bring up the Scientology issue again to sway voters. Whether these tactics will be successful, remains to be seen.
@johnshutt91@NextBestPicture@diggerthemovie@AmyHayneKim It is a real possibility. The industry turns a blind eye to this because of $$$, showing peak hypocrisy. They easily cancel Karla Sofia over tweets, yet look the other way for one of the most prominent figures of an actual cult.
@MendezMovieRPT Scientology could be a factor. The industry seems willing to look the other way because he's a bankable star. But if Karla Sofía was dragged over old tweets, then the documented horrors linked to that cult should technically be far more damaging. The double standard is obvious.
@akstanwyck Totally agree. 4 days was far too little time to turn the race around. If voting had started a week later, it’s very likely Sinners would have won. Momentum shifts usually take time—Parasite had enough of it to beat 1917, for example.
@AKlay19 Best Actor was more open. Chalamet lost BAFTA. Emma had GG, CCA, BAFTA, plus her movie was the runner up, just like Jordan's. Most of the times is the movie not the award.
@oscaruriel Perdió desde su discurso en SAG el año pasado, y las cosas que lo ayudaron con la gente joven para que Marty fuera un éxito en taquilla, lo perjudicaron con la industria.
@MendezMovieRPT@ryan_casselman Both films are showing immense local passion. The fact that OBAA won (even by 1 vote) in a 60% SAG sample is a good sign, the guild also liked it.
The deciding factor? International voters. As this experiment suggests, European tastes lean toward OBAA: https://t.co/wTaE4lSQmy
@MendezMovieRPT I think the domestic vote is split, but the international branch will tip the scales for OBAA. You can’t ignore those wins at the BAFTAs and Césars, plus its international box office run. That internacional support is exactly what’s going to give it the edge.
