@SalihHudayar@Liza_D_Tobin@scsp_ai@HooverInst Taiwan is already sovereign independent.
It's fine to encourage South Mongolia, East Turkestan (Uyghur), Tibet, etc. to regain their independence. If anything, Mongolia ruled China before, and can claim china.
Hong Kong, Manchuria, etc., can also strive for independence.
We support Taiwan's VP Dr. William Lai, to win next presidential election 2024.1.13. Dr. Lai of Democratic Progressive Party is for democracy and independence of Taiwan. Opponent is Chinese KMT, which was the oppressor and wants Taiwan to unify with Communist China.
Good riddance of Huawei.

@David_Mulroney I was just in S Africa. They have loadshedding (power outages) everywhere. China is offering money/engineering while the west talks of assistance. It's like Russia/Egypt for Aswan High Dam).
China is buying control/influence everywhere, while the west think/talks.
@David_Mulroney That's BS. When it comes to national security concerns (especially Huawei in the name), CSIS has the right to find out.
I went to UWaterloo. Prof Ozsu is out of order on this.
@David_Mulroney 2/2 When Nazis were invading others, there were willing collaborators. When Russia invades Ukraine, there are willing collaborators in Ukraine. Ma is afraid to be forgotten, and goes to China to show he can be a willing collaborator of Xi/CCP.
@David_Mulroney 1/2 The Taiwanese people have achieved peaceful transition to democracy, and are seeing how China cannot be trusted, especially in its crackdown in Hong Kong (+ brutality in Tibet, and Uighur region, etc.) Taiwanese people in their right mind, would not want to be part of China.
2/2 If Xi/CCP-leadership continue crackdown in Hong Kong, concentration camp in Uighur region, brutality in Tibet and elsewhere in China, they can get charged by the ICC.
Milošević dismissed charges before, then one day found himself handed over to the ICC, and died in prison.
1/2 President Tsai of a democracy and independent Taiwan, has the right to visit other countries. China is getting upset?!
China should direct its effort to improve human rights and basic freedom, rather than threatening Taiwan and others.

@stphnmaher So Dong confirms the Chinese envoy heard him, mistakenly, to delay the release of the two Michaels.
But I don't know of Mandarin word(s) for "delay" and "immediately" that sound similar? Dong's explanation got muddier.
This is significant.
If Xi/CCP want to invade Taiwan, they can also face arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court, for war crimes.

Congrats to team Taiwan for winning the Junior World Series Championships, in Taylor, Michigan.
Hope the name can be changed from "Chinese Taipei" to "Taiwan" soon.
