China issues 5-year plan for agricultural, rural modernization

The State Council has issued a plan to accelerate agricultural and rural modernization during the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) period.

The plan seeks to accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas to drive Chinese modernization, and has identified key tasks and policy measures for this purpose during the period.

According to the plan, by 2030, the nation's food security will be continuously enhanced; the quality, efficiency and competitiveness of agriculture will be further improved; and the achievements of poverty alleviation will be consolidated and expanded.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Meets with Wang Yi

On May 29, 2026 local time, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Ottawa.

Mark Carney asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to the Chinese leaders, stating that during his visit to China earlier this year, he and the Chinese leaders jointly decided to build the Canada-China new Strategic Partnership. Over the past four months, exchanges at all levels and cooperation across various fields between Canada and China have accelerated their restart and made positive progress. Canada is willing to work with China to maintain close high-level exchanges, deepen cooperation in fields such as energy, finance, agriculture and fisheries, and keep consolidating the foundation of bilateral relations. Canada supports China in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting, and is ready to work with China to jointly champion and practice multilateralism, so as to make positive contributions to global economic development and world peace and stability.

Wang Yi Has Discussions with Representatives from Various Sectors in the United States

On May 27, 2026 local time, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held discussions with representatives from the United States strategic and business communities while chairing the United Nations Security Council high-level meeting in New York.

Wang Yi noted that during the Security Council high-level meeting he chaired in New York, the unanimous call of the participants was to revisit the founding vision of the U.N. Charter, reinvigorate the authority of the U.N., and practice multilateralism. To reinvigorate the U.N., the priority is to reinvigorate the Security Council, and the key lies in coordination and cooperation among its permanent members, among which the direction of China-U.S. relations is of crucial importance. Facts have shown that China-U.S. relations transcend the bilateral scope and affect world peace and the future of humanity. Achieving the sound, steady and sustainable development of China-U.S. relations is the common expectation of the international community and the mission that China and the U.S. should fulfill.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese and U.S. presidents held a historic meeting in Beijing, where they had candid, in-depth, constructive and strategic communication on major issues concerning China-U.S. relations and world peace and development, and reached a series of important common understandings. The two sides agreed to define a constructive relationship of strategic stability as the new positioning of China-U.S. relations and expressed the hope to work in the direction of cooperation as the mainstay, competition within proper limits, manageable differences, and expectable peace, and jointly explore the right way for major countries to get along in the new era. President Xi Jinping pointed out that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and making America great again can go hand in hand and reinforce each other, bringing benefits to the world. The two sides also achieved generally balanced and positive outcomes in economic and trade cooperation, and agreed to support each other in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 Summit. To ensure a sound China-U.S. relationship, the two sides need to meet each other halfway, effectively manage differences, lengthen the list of cooperation and shorten the list of problems. Wang Yi stressed that “Taiwan independence” and cross-Strait peace and stability are as irreconcilable as fire and water. Only by upholding the one-China principle and the spirit of the three China-U.S. Joint Communiqués can peace across the Taiwan Strait be safeguarded and conflict and confrontation avoided.

Wang Yi stated that China is ready to work with the U.S. to implement the important common understandings reached by the two presidents, take concrete actions, and work to bring a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability into reality at an early date. He expressed the hope that those present would make active efforts to this end and help build broader public consensus.

The U.S. participants said that the U.S.-China relationship is the most important bilateral relationship in the world today. The successful meeting between the two presidents not only contributes to the respective development of the two countries, but also injects stability into the turbulent world and sends a positive signal to global markets. China’s economy has demonstrated strong resilience and vitality. American businesses are optimistic about the Chinese market and look forward to increasing investment and cooperation in China. As major countries, the U.S. and China should strengthen coordination and cooperation in various fields, jointly provide international public goods, and work hand in hand to address global challenges.
