@ZegrasTrevor@jeo1110 I dunno... Conroy was making like Parekh likes playing on the left side. Maybe that's gamesmenship but Parekh, Whitecloud, Nemec, and Bahl as T4 all signed for value with term or with team control seems like a pretty good situation. Forwards are all meh or magic beans thou.
Elections Alberta says the October referendum will require hiring at least 60,000 workers and printing 45 million ballots.
That will cost Albertans nearly five times what the last provincial election cost — up to $100 million — all so Danielle Smith can keep her deal with the separatists.
Imagine what that money could do for healthcare, education, or addressing the affordability crisis.
The UCP and Danielle Smith have the wrong priorities.
@FlamesNation I remember tuning into a WHL game the season after the draft and wondering why the Flames drafted Howse... he had a nice shot but was lackluster in every other respect of the game.
Albertans deserve to know exactly what some of the leading voices behind separation are advocating: mandatory military service, citizenship based on birthplace, and a vision of society that belongs in the past.
At a time when Calgary is attracting talent, investment, and opportunity from across Canada and around the world, the provincial referendum decision is giving oxygen to a movement that creates uncertainty, division, and risk.
Our city needs more homes, more jobs, more infrastructure, and stronger ties with the rest of Canada and the world. Instead, we're being dragged into a debate that threatens investment, undermines confidence, and distracts from the real challenges facing Albertans.
Calgary's future is as a growing, confident Canadian city. We must be focused on building that future, not legitimizing a movement that puts it at risk.
Like the vast majority of Albertans, I’m both a proud Canadian, and a proud Albertan.
We are a smart, hard working, innovative and loyal people.
Those who went before us built one of the most prosperous and generous societies on Earth.
And we’re not going to let anyone tear apart our home, the true North strong and free.
It’s time to fight for our country.
Alberta: let’s lead, not leave.

I am born and raised in Alberta, and live there now.
I'll be voting against any form of separation.
From now until the vote in October, I will use my online reach to campaign against the separatists and ensure this discussion of separation ends for good in 2026.
Let’s all just keep in mind that Smith calling a separation referendum isn’t an act of leadership.
It’s an abdication of leadership.
Because she’s not a leader.
She’s a political arsonist.

@walkerpj1@nateglubish But it's NOT the FC petition question. It is, in fact, hugely different. If the government is going to try to claim that what they're going to be putting forward is the response to the FC petition then Lukasyk should probably pursue legal action.
Danielle Smith has no mandate for a referendum, no basis to hold it, and no authority to lead
She should call an election and get a fucking mandate for this atrocity
@TheTradeLawGuy@GoatedXOpinions when they lose a court case anyways you don't put their position on the ballot anyways, and you don't swear that you're going to use public resources to fight their fight for them. 2/2
@TheTradeLawGuy@GoatedXOpinions Moreover you don't bend over backwards to clear every legal and logistical obstacle to having a referendum on separation. You don't make a change to lower the bar for them, you don't change legislation at the 11th hour when it's clear that they're going to lose a court case. 1/2
Pandering to separatists for partisan 'keep the base happy' reasons is even more contemptible than separatism itself.
At least the separatists actually believe something, despicable though it is - you're just dragging Albertans into a this gong show to protect your leader.
@walkerpj1@nateglubish Smith Question: "Should Alberta remain a province of Canada or should the Government of Alberta commence the legal process required under the Canadian Constitution to hold a binding provincial referendum on whether or not Alberta should separate from Canada?"
@nateglubish You also know that even if you want to have the FC petition put on a ballot the question that your "Leader" outlined to citizens isn't the one that was proposed in the FC petition. Your "Leader" is a coward who is putting her interests above the good of all citizens. 2/2
@nateglubish You are outright lying in parts and being insincere in others. You know very well that the legislative box was checked (and thus that a referendum is not required, you could just vote on it in the Leg). 1/2
