Hier soir, dans un acte antisémite odieux, trois personnes ont été prises pour cible à l’aide d’une réplique d’arme à feu devant la synagogue Chasidei Bobov à North York, une attaque qui a fait un blessé.

Je suis soulagé d’apprendre qu’une personne a été arrêtée. Les forces de l’ordre ont pleinement mon soutien dans leur enquête sur cet incident ainsi que dans leurs efforts afin que justice soit rendue aux victimes et à l’ensemble de la communauté juive.

L’année dernière, nous avons présenté un nouveau projet de loi visant à renforcer le Code criminel, à lutter contre la haine et à protéger nos communautés, et nous sommes toujours fermement déterminés à combattre le fléau que sont l’antisémitisme et la haine sous toutes ses formes.

Ensemble, nous continuerons à bâtir un pays où l’ensemble des Canadiennes et des Canadiens de confession juive peuvent vivre ouvertement, librement et en toute sécurité.

Last night, three people were fired upon with a replica firearm outside Chasidei Bobov synagogue in North York in an abhorrent act of antisemitism, leaving one person injured.

I am relieved to hear that an arrest has been made. Law enforcement agencies have my full support as they investigate, and as they work to bring justice for the victims and the wider Jewish community.

Last year, we introduced new legislation to the strengthen the criminal code, combat hate, and protect our communities — and we remain absolute in Canada’s commitment to combatting the scourge of antisemitism and hate in all of its forms.

Together, we will continue to build a country where all Jewish Canadians can live openly, freely, and safely.

Canada is deeply concerned about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and reaffirm our opposition to Israeli settlement expansion and settler violence in the West Bank.

Earlier today, I spoke with President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the measures taken by the Palestinian Authority to strengthen accountability, governance, and democratic institutions, in which Hamas can play no part.

We will continue to promote peace and stability in the region, and work closely with partners toward this goal.
