FED WARSH AT JACKSON HOLE (Summary):
On policy:
• He gave no timetable for a rate hike and said the speech should not be viewed as forward guidance or a formal reaction function
• Short-term interest rates remain the Fed’s main policy tool
• A “good majority” at the July meeting thought waiting was the wiser course
• Longer-term Fed task-force recommendations will have no bearing on current policy decisions
• The Fed needs market signals to remain “as unfiltered as possible”
On Macro:
• Economy “appears to have strengthened”
• Consumer spending remains healthy, labor markets stable
• Business investment is rising rapidly
• Financial conditions are hard to describe as restrictive
• Credit and loan markets show few signs of policy restraint
On inflation:
• Price stability is the Fed’s “predominant focus” right now
• Summer inflation data were better than expected, but underlying trends have not meaningfully improved
• Progress on inflation over the past two years has been modest
• Fed’s 2% PCE target is “firm and fixed”
• If the Fed cannot be confident inflation is moving toward 2% “clearly and at sufficient speed,” Warsh said “we have work to do”
• Inflation expectations remain broadly stable, but “tend to look durable until they don’t” and must be watched closely
Also:
• Wage growth is moderate, but Warsh does not view wages as a reliable predictor of future inflation
• Market pricing still shows confidence that the Fed will ultimately deliver price stability
TLDR: Warsh did not explicitly call for a hike, but he made clear that current policy does not look particularly restrictive and that persistent inflation would require the Fed to act.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by the tragic flash floods and mudslides in Nepal and Tibet. Apple is making a donation to support relief and rebuilding efforts on the ground.
Today’s agenda at Apple Park: Introduce the @Pokemon team to John, talk gaming, and politely ask Pikachu to stay out of the pond. Two out of three were accomplished.
A true visionary who showed us the power of boundless imagination. Yayoi Kusama’s creativity pushed the art world forward and left behind a brighter, more vibrant world for us all.
Morgan Stanley on CXMT:
This valuation premium is justified by CXMT's stronger growth outlook. CXMT’s higher growth relative to peers reflects 2 key factors:
(1) strong demand from China's 🇨🇳 domestic AI server market, including both GPU- & CPU based systems; & (2) continued capacity expansion driven by localization requirements.
We expect CXMT to continue expanding capacity even if DRAM pricing moderates. Bull case: In this scenario, we assume US cloud service providers and consumer electronics brands begin sourcing CXMT DRAM amid severe global memory shortages, while CXMT achieves a breakthrough in 3D DRAM technology by 2028.
Our checks with equipment vendors suggest CXMT could adopt VCT technology, a transitional architecture toward 3D DRAM, to advance to its Gen5 (~15nm-class) process node without relying on EUV lithography tools”

$AAPL LAUNCHES NEW MAC MINI WITH M6 AND M5 PRO
Apple unveiled a new Mac mini lineup, with preorders starting today and availability beginning Sept. 22.
M6 Mac mini:
• Starts at $899
• 12-core CPU / 12-core GPU
• Up to 40% faster CPU performance vs. M4
• Up to 4x faster AI performance
• Up to 32GB unified memory
M5 Pro Mac mini:

Both add Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, while the M5 Pro model gets Thunderbolt 5, which Apple says can also be used to cluster multiple Mac minis for running larger AI models locally.
Really interesting to note:
M6 delivers up to 13.5x faster LLM prompt processing vs. M1 and 4.8x vs. M4, while M5 Pro reaches up to 4x the LLM performance of M4 Pro.
Thunderbolt 5 can now cluster multiple Mac minis together to run larger AI models entirely on-device.
Mac Studio + M5 Max and the all-new M5 Ultra.
Monumental leap in AI performance. Even faster graphics for the most demanding pro workflows. Massive unified memory and extensive connectivity. All in its compact design.
It's the most Tim Cook thing ever to have his final product launch be a Mac chip refresh and then let his successor be the one to introduce the biggest new iPhone ever just two weeks later.
The wait for a new iPad mini won’t be much longer either. It’s still on track for this fall and will launch before the end of October. It’s revamped, complete with an iPhone-like OLED screen.
