Introducing spearfishing for tourism in the Maldives deserves careful consideration and dialogue with industry stakeholders and international partners.
Reef impact, enforcement challenges and widespread social media exposure could undermine our preserve environment-first positioning and long-term tourism value. I call for a reconsideration.

Meetings with representatives from Angola, Uganda, and Kenya took place during ITB Berlin 2026, where we held early-stage discussions on potential trade cooperation between our companies and these countries partners.

We made it to ITB 2026 once again.

This has been one of the most challenging ITBs for us mainly due to the flight disruptions, last-minute changes, and complex routing across different airlines. The journey itself felt longer and more demanding than ever.

Maldives travel agents are being erased. while tourism booms, we’re buried. Every election promises regulation. Every presidency breaks it. Government offices back online giants, ignoring the locals who built this billion-dollar industry. We pay taxes. we creat jobs , We educated Our locals and we feed families. We deserve better.

In Maldives Travel agents are fading and Government has failed to protect them. First 100 Days Government promised a bill for travel agencies, where is that now ? We see failed policies across the board and poor governance sadly. New Investment reforms also travel agencies are forgotten. MATATO needs to advocate and lobby more for these things.@MATATO

I’m seeking clarification regarding the new regulation introduced by the MMA, which mandates a USD 50,000 deposit to obtain a foreign exchange license. Does this apply to all businesses, or is it based on tiers such as Tier 1 and Tier 2? Specifically, does it impact travel agents, guest houses, safari boats, resorts, or airlines? Even if a business only exchanges USD 500 monthly, is the deposit still required for the license? With over 200 travel agents, 25 airline representatives, 900 guest houses, 210 safari boats, and 185 resorts, this regulation could lead to the MMA collecting over USD 76 million.
