Since my daughter being born, moving into a new place taking on a new position at work & the rebrand I really haven’t been as active as I use to be on any social platform. Dear YouTube Team,

I respectfully request you to review the removal of my YouTube channel, as I believe this action may have been taken due to a misunderstanding.

My channel was created with the primary purpose of providing educational content and sharing useful knowledge with people around the world. All my videos, posts, and activities were created with the intention of following YouTube’s Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and policies. I have always tried to maintain a genuine and responsible approach while creating content.

I would like to clarify that my videos and posts were not intended to be spam, deceptive content, or to mislead viewers in any way. The sole aim of my channel was education, awareness, and helping people learn valuable information.

I invested significant time, effort, and personal resources into building this channel so that learners from different parts of the world could access educational content. Losing this channel has affected my ability to continue sharing knowledge and educational resources with my audience.

I humbly request the YouTube team to conduct a manual review of my channel and reconsider the decision. If any content was found to be against YouTube policies unintentionally, I am willing to correct it and strictly follow all guidelines in the future.

I have a postgraduate background and work as a librarian, with a strong connection to education and knowledge sharing. My intention has always been to contribute positively through educational content.

This is a really tough policy change towards small creators on YouTube. I hope that it will result in (A) less slop content (B) better RPM splits for creators in the program

BUT this makes it nearly impossible for smaller creators to pursue shortform seriously. Attached is a screenshot of my views on my Second YT Channel, which recently hit 100K subscribers. Under this new policy, even this channel which is pretty successful for a second channel, would not be eligible for earning shorts revenue—which is about $400-600 a month.

At the end of the day, that’s not nearly as much revenue as I make on longform, but it definitely makes it harder to break in and make revenue off shorts on YouTube for smaller creators.

Moral of the story? Use shorts to gain subscribers and ADVERTISE your channel, personality, and funnel people to streams and longform.

If you’re a smaller creator, I’d start focusing on longform content which is significantly easier to monetize and make money on.

I have to correct my theory as I was thinking more about it, I decided I had to look into it, and I did learn some stuff.

It is a common misconception is that gifted YouTube memberships only go to subscribers. That’s false. Gifted memberships can be awarded to viewers participating in a live chat, people who have previously interacted with the channel (I’ve actually been gifted memberships when I’m not even in chat or participating with the channel), or anyone who has opted in to receive gifted memberships in their YouTube settings even if they are not subscribed to the channel.

However, receiving a gifted membership does not automatically subscribe someone to the channel. They receive membership perks for the gifted period, but they must choose to subscribe separately. Therefore, non-subscribers who receive gifted memberships do not automatically increase the channel’s subscriber count.

The distinction is important because subscriptions and memberships are two separate things on YouTube. A person can be:

A subscriber but not a member.
A member but not a subscriber.
Both a subscriber and a member.
Neither.

*Receiving a gifted membership does not automatically subscribe someone to the channel. Memberships and subscriptions are separate features on YouTube.

Therefore, if a channel’s subscriber count is declining, those losses are not simply because gifted memberships are expiring. A subscriber count only decreases when someone who is subscribed chooses to go to the channel and chooses to unsubscribe. Gifted memberships expiring alone do not reduce a channel’s subscriber count.
