A state that plays the victim is rarely a well functioning state. Progress is difficult if you constantly try to justify your national identity by blaming others for your predicament. The bigger the state, the worse it becomes. Fake nostalgia is always counterproductive.

We have left the EU. We are mad to have done so and this is as clear an explanation as to why as you will get. I try not to look back because it is done but every now and then i feel a great sense of loss of many things...and not just the economy.

There’s still a widespread failure to understand that Brexiters were long ago reduced to cheering *anything* that Johnson serves up - even, perhaps especially, when it is the polar opposite of what they were cheering yesterday. Anything to postpone the humiliation of reality...
