I think Tyla is being extremely gracious. In truth people who criticised her for saying she is coloured could also have done their work and found out why Black and coloured in a South African context are not the same thing.
The most frustrating part of this chat about Tyla’s racial identity is that there are commonalities between the production of racial/ethnic categories as a result apartheid and slavery, and recognising that would be way more productive than whatever the hell Americans are doing
@ImpassionedDias Because all now at my big age my Mum is still a parent to me, now we gotta add in 5 days a week of caregiving to my pickney too? There’s certain practices we can let go of whilst still having our parents be a a part of the “village” imo. I want my Mum to rest and enjoy 🤷🏾♀️
I know they say all the grandparents don’t grandparent anymore, but this is exactly how I’d want my Mum to be living lol. Looking after my kids 5 times a week during her retirement is not the life I want for her.
My mom: “you don’t need childcare for Liam I’m going to retire so he doesn’t have to go to daycare”
Also my mom: *books a cruise and is gone my entire first two weeks back at work*
@DrJDoomwits But just because grandparents took on considerable amounts of childcare in generations prior, doesn’t mean that we should continue that practice. Yes, Grandparents should be a part of family life, but I wouldn’t want my Mother to take on THAT much caregiving during retirement
Ohhh okay, let’s all just do that then! Next time I’m standing in a wheelchair space and a pram user gets on, I’m gonna tell them it’s inconvenient for me to move because I was here first and they should wait for the next bus xxx
@theashrb That’s the rule but it doesn’t make sense in reality.
1. Pram was on the bus first. 1st come basis
2. It’s highly disorganizing folding pram & rearranging all the items
3. Even worse when some drivers ask 1 of the family to get off for the disabled person to get on.
You dutty foot, wicked ableist people better hope you don’t catch up with me on a bus when you’re denying a wheelchair user a space on the bus, because everyone’s day is getting delayed and ruined until you clear the way for the wheelchair user.
@ThatgirlDzo Oh deffo, it’s just our hyper consumption in general😭. We don’t allow ourselves to build upon our feelings, we just feel once and move on. Pair that with always being fed a new release, we’re cooked 😭
This song deserved so much more 😭😭😭.
Songs don’t carry us through the summer like they used to 🥲. Jorja Smith’s Little Things and Jay Hus’ Who Told You also come to mind. Great hits that should’ve been rinsed all summer. They had their moment, but not nearly enough for me.
@Trenchcoat45 I hear you, but it’s also harder to do everything these days, everyone is stretched thin. This won’t change and will only get worse. And so although it sucks, we have to family plan with this reality in mind and reimagine what a village looks like🥲
I had a man tell me that my body had “so much potential” as a backhanded compliment. Like my body is a construction project that isn’t finished until it reaches maximum desirability. Mind you he said this laying on my chest after we hunched
