A friend of mine who was a grip on a ton of cool movies knew people that worked on THE EXORCIST and said when William Friedkin asked his DP to have a cascading light coming from Regan's closed curtain window, falling onto Father Merrin upon his arrival, the DP told Friedkin "But you want the curtain closed, how do I have a light coming out of her window if the curtain's closed?"

Friedkin turned to his DP and said, "That's your job to figure out," and walked away. Well the DP figured it out, and created one of film's most iconic shots.
