🔸 Laxman Jagannath Mankar — another Marathi historian who translated Sabhasad Bakhar to English — explicitly mentions how it was found out during the enquiry that Shivaji was descended from a family that had migrated from the North to Deccan and that this is how Gagabhatt was able to bestow the sacred thread upon Shivaji, as the Kshatriyas of North were allowed the rite of wearing it.

🔸 I love how Marathas try to openly deny facts by posting Marathi texts and rejecting the English translations as faulty. So apparently, every historian who was fluent in Marathi and translated Sabhasad to English — Jadunath Sarkar, Surendranath Sen & Laxman Jagannath Mankar — somehow ‘read it wrong’? Because they all translate this line to Shivaji being descended from a family WHICH HAD COME FROM THE NORTH TO DECCAN.

🔸 The word ‘Sisode’ used here in Sabhasad Bakhar is merely a Marathi equivalent of the name ‘Sisodiya’. This becomes clear when you read another line from the same text where Mirza Raja Jai Singh writes to Shivaji — calling him a Sisodiya Rajput and of the same stock (race) as himself. Marathas use such slight variations in nomenclature to play mental gymnastics, even though their royals never try to deny their Rajput ancestry.

🔸 Bhonsles have always been very clearly with the fact that they claim ancestry from Sisodiya Rajputs of Mewar, not any so-called ‘Sisode Maratha’ clan of Deccan. Pratap Singh Bhonsle — the Chhatrapati of Satara (Shivaji’s direct descendant) literally sent emissaries to the Maharana of Udaipur for collecting evidences of his Sisodiya Rajput origin when Kavir Muth refused to acknowledge his Kshatriya pedigree.

🔸 Shahji Bhonsle — Shivaji’s father — literally brags about being a Rajput in his letter to Sultan Ali Adil Shah (dated 6th July, 1657) and another contemporary English factory letter (dated 9th December 1669) addresses Shivaji as “𝙖 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙍𝙖𝙟𝙥𝙪𝙩” too. The Ghorpades of Mudhol (senior branch of Bhonsles) even preserved/forged 𝙛𝙖𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙨 issued by the Deccani Sultans to prove their descent from the Maharanas of Udaipur.

I already discussed all of this in the previous tweet as well but, being the Marathi revisionist he is, @keshavadevarao conveniently sidelined all these points. I challenge him to show me a single evidence of Bhonsles claiming ancestry from any so-called ‘Sisode Maratha’ clan of Deccan instead of the Sisodiya Rajputs of Mewar.
