Today marks 336 days since Noorullah Tareen and Hanif Pashteen were disappeared.

Enforced disappearance is a grave human rights violation. No one should be taken from their family and community and denied the protection of the law. Families have the right to know the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones, and the authorities have an obligation to investigate their disappearance.

For 336 days, the families of Noorullah and Hanif have been left without answers. Their continued absence demands urgent action, a credible investigation and accountability.

MISSING, NOT FORGOTTEN - 12 October 2026 - 11 Months

Eleven months ago today, Noorullah Tareen and Hanif Pashteen disappeared after leaving a peace jirga in Peshawar, which they had attended at the invitation of the provincial government.

Five others who disappeared alongside them were released after approximately two months. Noorullah and Hanif remain missing.

Eleven months without answers. Eleven months without certainty. Eleven months of families waiting to know what happened to their loved ones.

As Khyber Pakhtunkhwa faces another period of political upheaval, their case must not be forgotten. Whatever changes in government, the obligation to establish their whereabouts and ensure their safety remains.

Enforced disappearance places a person outside the protection of the law.

That is one of its most frightening characteristics.

A person is taken away, their whereabouts are concealed, and their family is left unable to obtain even the most basic information.
