As we approach two years since the landmark 23 September 2024 judgment in Just Rights for Children Alliance & Anr. v. S. Harish & Ors., the Hon’ble #SupremeCourt of India reframed “child pornography” as Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Material (CSEAM), shifting the understanding from mere indulgence to a criminal act, and made clear the accountability of social media intermediaries to report such crimes locally. @JustRightsIndia

Companies doing business in India must report crimes against children in India to Indian authorities.

We (@JustRightsIndia) welcome #Meta’s decision to report cases of #childsexualabuse directly to Indian law-enforcement agencies. This is an important step towards ensuring that crimes against children in India are reported and acted upon under Indian law. I congratulate the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (@GoI_MeitY) and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (@NCPCR_) for reinforcing that online child safety is non-negotiable.

All digital, technology and streaming platforms must now follow suit. If a platform reaches children and does business in India, it must comply with Indian law.

पाञ्चजन्य @epanchjanya पत्रिका का हार्दिक आभार। आपने #बालविवाह के खिलाफ #भारत की इस ऐतिहासिक मुहिम और इसकी वैश्विक जीत को लोगों तक पहुंचाया। यह लड़ाई करोड़ों माता-पिता, बेटियों, पंचायतों और धर्मगुरुओं की साझा आवाज़ है, जो गांव-गांव से उठकर #संयुक्तराष्ट्र @UN तक पहुंची। संयुक्त राष्ट्र ने #27नवंबर को बाल विवाह के उन्मूलन के लिए अंतरराष्ट्रीय दिवस घोषित किया है। भारत के लिए इस तारीख का विशेष महत्व है, क्योंकि 27 नवंबर 2024 को ही भारत सरकार ने '#बालविवाहमुक्तभारत' अभियान की शुरुआत की थी। इस दिशा में भारत सरकार के सशक्त और निर्णायक नेतृत्व का भी बड़ा योगदान रहा है। यह भारत की सामूहिक इच्छाशक्ति और संकल्प की वैश्विक जीत है। भारत में अब तक 6,00,000 से ज्यादा बाल विवाह रुक चुके हैं, पर यह लड़ाई अभी खत्म नहीं हुई, यह तो बस एक नई शुरुआत है। हमारा इरादा है कि 2030 तक हम भारत को बाल विवाह मुक्त बनाएं। @JustRightsIndia
