Nolan only added the character to give a more personal connection between Antinous and Odysseus based on Antinous's recruitment scene and to make Odysseus feel more guilty when he meets the dead (a soldier who he lied to + sent to die)

Page plays Sinon, a character who wasn't even in the Odyssey in the first place. I don't like their inclusion but it doesn't ruin anything.

Read the Needy Girl Overdose manga adaptation. Decent for what it is but unfortunately it's on indefinite hiatus and hasn't really gotten truly going yet. Art was good though and the new character Noa was so far set up well. P was also better written I thought.
