When I feel the pull for more, I meditate on the facts:
We have no credit card debt. We have no car debt. We have no student loan debt. Our home is an appreciating asset with a small mortgage. We have all we could ever want or need.
Ignore that voice saying “you need more.”
We spend the final months of the year falling off the proverbial horse of whatever we had hoped to change in our lives, then, in January, we do it all over again. New year new us only last a few months (or more if we’re lucky) then the “reinvention”, or so we think, starts again.
With the latter, you stay on the path because the path is who you are. It’s not an endpoint. Not a destination. You’ve actually *changed*.
This can be applied anywhere: personal finance, minimalism, travel/experiences, learning, weight loss, spirituality, and on and on.
Tracking net worth is wild when on the path to FIRE. We put a lot of trust in the process at first—our net worth was relatively low (even negative with student loans), but we jumped into the FIRE both feet first and are reaping the benefits. The moral here is that it works!
"Humans are flawed. We backslide. We screw up and life gets away from us. We take the easy way out. And then?"
