Drop Site News was scheduled to host a panel discussion at SXSW London on June 3. We have informed the organizers we will not be moving forward with the event following SXSW’s refusal to condemn the British Home Office’s state censorship of our colleagues Hasan Piker and Cenk Uygur, who were also scheduled to speak at SXSW. The banning of our colleagues is part of an intensifying campaign by the UK government to stifle criticism of Israel and criminalize pro-Palestine activism at a time when the genocide in Gaza is continuing.
@Banjo5765 You should recheck your sources on those. When Cenk last denied it, if “Al-haddad” himself is a Houthi, and if interviewing is platforming. Also, still no center between that and supporting (or especially participating in) ongoing, livestreamed genocide.
@Banjo5765 Yeah that’s silly. That’s not why they banned him. There’s also no both-sidesing this. “Muslim invaders” aren’t conducting a genocide in England. The “we” here should be more charged against actual war criminals.
@YepBoomer No we just dont want influencer grifters in this country, multiple right wing ones were banned last month. Both sides have acted like children blaming ze jews, Israel and muslim invaders for it. So seems we made a good choice.
Banning Cenk Uyghur and Hasan Piker from entering the UK is an absurd and cowardly decision from an increasingly authoritarian government.
Let us call this what it is: an attack on the freedom to criticise Israel, as well as the UK government’s own complicity in genocide.
I have a theory that the UK banned him because bro wears suits now and that made their lawmakers perceive him as a mainstream threat. So essentially, Shaky Gurga got banned because of Hasan’s suits.
Leftists: I don’t really like Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel but the way Trump is fucking with them is bad
Liberals: YEA TRUMP, GO GET HASAN HAHHAHAHAHHAHA
Ironically it was actually @nickshirleyy who appears to have stayed in a sanctioned hotel on his trip while @hasanthehun obeyed the state dept requirements.
