The "Effective Power" text message that would shut off iPhone's
In 2015, people would send the message to other iPhones and it would crash as soon as the recipient got a banner notification. The IOS update at the time couldn't process the Arabic correctly and would end up bugging and crashing the whole phone.
Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong was once the most densely populated place on Earth.
At its peak in the 1980s, over 30,000 people lived in just 6.4 acres. The city was a chaotic maze of tightly packed buildings, narrow alleys, and multi-story structures built without formal planning.
Despite the cramped conditions, a strong community thrived inside, with shops, schools, and small factories.
The city was demolished in 1993, but it remains an unforgettable example of extreme urban density.
This Cube was installed in multiple museums and galleries and used the Wi-fi connection of each institution to create its own network. Any visitor who connected to the museums open Wi-Fi would have all of their activity funneled through the Tor network.
The Tor network is an infamous communication network notoriously used to navigate the deep-web. In this case the Artists (Trevor Paglen & Jacob Applebaum) effectively anonymizes and hides the traffic from many forms of surveillance and interception.
Suprisingly the installation has been featured in multiple galleries and museums and aims to open a discussion about surveillance and government snooping.
The artists raise the question of "What could the Internet look like if the Internet hadn't been turned into the greatest means of mass surveillance in the history of humanity?"

Cabbage spirals show how something simple can hold so much beauty.
Each layer folds into the next, creating patterns that feel almost endless.
A reminder that even the ordinary can be appreciated like art.
