@timstillman_ I think a lot of supporters, unsurprisingly, forget how important it was in this scenario just to get his wages off the books. Him and Martinelli alone will save the club ~£280k per week. Now imagine if we can add Jesus and Vieira to that.

January deals can be so so difficult though. Surely several clubs will be in for him and no guarantee they wont be in a position, at either end of the table, where they simply can't afford to sell him.

Love Reiss, but he is made of glass and on £100k per week. As an academy player we will show no loss on him and how we save the wages; a fee would have been wonderful, but THAT'S the most important part.

Not only are Arsenal bringing in a nominal fee for Martinelli, but by removing him and Reiss from the wage bill they're saving roughly £280k per week. Should the club be able to add the likes of Jesus and Vieira to the list they'll bring the tally to nearly £600k per week.

Would be massive!

@_PhilCosta Per usual it seemed wages were a massive issue. Nonetheless it’s quite annoying we weren’t able to get anything. However, it’s an academy player so no loss and now his wages are off the books so certainly still a net positive.

Unfortunate we weren’t able to secure even a nominal fee for his departure, but given his wages it was always going to be difficult.

The Bournemouth goal will forever live in our heads and hearts and I wish Reiss nothing but the best for the rest of his career.

You’d be naive to think we don’t have players in our current squad that don’t have aspirations or dreams of playing elsewhere.

IMO much of the Alvarez noise though is driven by Barcelona journalists. He himself has never said 100% no Arsenal, but rather that he dreams of playing in Barca and they’ve run with it; creating a narrative to get in his head and create drama that ultimately forces Atleti to fold which it doesn’t seem they will do.

Let’s wait and see.

Unfortunately that's life and that's football. Not everything is going to work out the way you want and while he was an important component in our title winning side the reality is that our ambitions and targets are higher than the club think he can take us with his style of play.

@gingerdavemk Regardless of current opinion on the players you could easily argue him and Zinchenko were the defining transfers that have led us to where we are today.
