Digital environments are not neutral. How they are designed, governed and monetized shape the health and wellbeing of our children.

Dear all my Ethiopian brothers and sisters: I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this. My mother is bravely fighting breast cancer, and we urgently need support for her treatment.
Every contribution and every share brings us closer to saving her life. 🙏💔
Congratulations, @MelatKirosCO!
Your victory is more than a milestone for #Ethiopian Americans—it's an inspiration for Ethiopians everywhere.
For the Ethiopian diaspora, especially in North America, those who have big influence on domestic politics here

@MelatKirosCO It's also a message to leaders in #Ethiopia, to think twice that political difference only resolved through dialogue, democracy, & peaceful processes not war/repression.
Your election also signals that issues affecting Ethiopia can have a thoughtful voice in 🇺🇸 Congress.

ETHIOPIA: CHRISTIANS KILLED, CHURCH BURNED, 280 DISPLACED
At least 12 Orthodox Christians were killed in multiple attacks in the predominantly Muslim community in Arsi Zone.
During the night of the attacks, their properties were burned down, along with the 101-year-old Telata St. Gabriel Church. More than 280 people were displaced.
"Orthodox Christians have been forced from the homes where they were born, raised, and built their lives. Their houses were singled out and burned solely because of their religion, and their property and livestock were looted. Those residents who survived the attacks fled with nothing but their faith and identity, and they are now left stranded in open areas without shelter," Arsi Diocese Public Relation Media reports.
Local sources say the attackers gave warnings of their intentions to the residents. While some have sought to portray these attacks through an ethnic lens, the information available so far indicates that the attacks have primarily targeted Orthodox Christians and Orthodox churches. Only these Orthodox Christians in the predominantly Muslim Arsi Zone reported similar incidents during the time: https://t.co/VAqbljnuNU
It is profoundly heartbreaking to witness another surge of xenophobic violence in #SouthAfrica this week. Hundreds have marched on Parliament, thousands of families have been displaced, and lives have been tragically cut short.
These include at least five Ethiopians killed earlier in the attacks, and five Mozambicans who died in Mossel Bay. Thousands more are now fleeing for their lives.
To see South Africa turn to xenophobia is a tragic betrayal of the country's struggle for independence and freedom. African nations stood united to dismantle apartheid. Ethiopia proudly supported "Madiba," Nelson Mandela, in 1962 and issued him a passport so he could travel the continent. Other countries helped in many ways, including with political and financial support.
Disagreements and grievances must be addressed by the justice system and the rule of law, never through vigilante violence and collective punishment.
South Africa deserves better. Africa deserves better.
Stop the hate. Protect the vulnerable. Uphold our shared humanity.

Ethiopia's Orthodox Church is raising the alarm over a fresh wave of violence in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, where dozens of Christians were reportedly killed and hundreds displaced.

Christians are being killed in Ethiopia. This is not a distant tragedy. We have walked alongside believers in Nigeria who know this grief intimately. Communities wiped out, churches burned, families shattered. The persecution is real. The need for the world to wake up is urgent.
The attacks on Ethiopia’s Orthodox churches in Oromia recently and sadly ongoing for years are shocking, and officials should be doing more to stop it. It is specific targeting of these Orthodox communities.
But it’s not clear to me that “Islamists” are doing this, but rather extremist Oromo nationalists. Maybe some might be Islamists as well, but this seems timed more for national destabilization because of elections and to inflame tensions.
