Yosemite Fire plans to begin ignitions on piles in the Foresta area. Pile burning is a key step in reducing fire hazards and promoting safer land management. #pileburning
The lightning caused Echo fire started August 2 in the high elevation of Yosemite's wilderness. There have been no closures & there are no critical values at risk. Echo is now 65 acres with increased fire activity. Smoke can be seen from multiple locations throughout the park.

Yosemite helicopter-551 is on scene doing bucket work to suppress the 1-2 acre Vernon fire located near Lake Vernon. There are smoke impacts to the area, however, there are no trail closures in effect. #2024fireseason
After receiving multiple lightning strikes in the park, 9 new fires have been detected. The fires are all less than 1/10th of an acre in remote areas of the park. There are no anticipated closures. Response has included engines, helicopter, and crews hiking in.
We'll be on extended staffing hours with the National Weather Service calling for thunderstorms, dry lightning, and erratic winds this weekend.

Yosemite has declared fire season due to hotter & drier conditions. Fire season is enacted when fire danger ratings for the park are moderate for 3 consecutive days. Help prevent human caused wildfires by ensuring your campfire is out cold using the drown stir & feel method.
Prescribed burning operations are planned for 5/17. The 55 targeted acres, Studhorse units 1 and 2, are south of the Wawona community and two miles northwest of the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias. Temporary trail closures are in effect.

18 burn piles were complete in the Foresta Community 3/27/2024. Active burning has concluded for the week.
Since October, Yosemite fire crews have completed nearly 1,500 burn piles throughout the park, turning potential hazards into ashes.

Fire management is preparing to burn piles next week (March 11) in the Foresta and Wawona communities. Smoke will be noticeable during and after ignitions.

Pile burning has concluded for the week with an additional 76 piles complete. Active ignitions will resume next week, if conditions are favorable.
