Incredibly grateful to @arishapiro and @alejanse_ for such a powerful report on what the suspension of the refugee program means for people like Reine and Jacombo.
Listen to the story below, including insight from @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge. 🎧

The new USCIS policy would appear to require anyone who is currently in the US who marries a U.S. citizen to leave the country, potentially for months or years, to get an immigrant visa; rather than doing what has been the process for 66 years and just applying for a green card.
Congress is being asked to hand ICE another $38 BILLION. In any other context, a 90% failure rate would trigger an audit, not a blank check.
They need to ask themselves: why would we write a check to scale up a detention regime that the courts have found unlawful 10,000 times?
There’s a reason why ICE has lost 10,000 times in detention cases — and why it’s losing in the court of public opinion.
My thoughts on @alivelshi about landmark reporting from @kyledcheney, who exposed the vast # of illegal detentions of Dreamers, children, refugees and more. 👇
“The administration wants the narrative to line up with their campaign rhetoric, but it doesn’t line up with reality," @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge tells @MSNOWNews.

Seven years ago today, I walked into @GlobalRefuge not knowing how much this work would change me.
Grateful every day to lift up refugee voices, advocate for change, and never take for granted what it means to have a place to call home.
CBS Exclusive: President Trump promised to hold 30,000 migrants at Guantanamo. Now, it's mostly empty.
-There were only 6 detainees Monday. ~900 have been sent there over a year.
-Staff outnumber detainees 100 to 1.
-The projected cost is $73 million.

Nearly 12,000 habeas cases filed is a staggering amount, something not seen in generations. And for the government to lose 86% of the time, in front of hundreds of judges appointed by every living president, is a sign of just how much ICE and DOJ stretched the law until it broke.
It's official! Florida's Everglades immigrant detention camp (officially known as "Alligator Alcatraz") is shutting down.
The tent camp cost Florida over $1 million a day to operate. Conditions were dire; men reported verbal and physical abuse, unhygienic conditions, and more.
REPORTER: Are Dreamers with DACA status deportation targets when you're talking about resuming mass deportations?
TOM HOMAN: If you're in the country illegally, you got a problem. Amnesty is off the table.
Some new polling from Pew shows what you probably already intuitively know: Americans *really* don’t like immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like churches, hospitals, and schools.
To be clear: if someone obtained citizenship through genuine fraud, the law has always provided a remedy. No one disputes that.
But a mass campaign targeting hundreds of people each month is something categorically different — and patently un-American.
As SCOTUS hears arguments in the TPS for Haiti and Syria case, @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge points out the glaring contradiction at the heart of these terminations.
We also talked about how the WH built its entire political brand on the idea that it's tough on illegal immigration, but respects the legal kind.
The data has now called that bluff —thanks to illuminating research by @David_J_Bier, showing 72% of cuts came from LEGAL pathways.
NEW from @priscialva: "Children as young as 4 are being forced to repeatedly appear in court and provide updates on the status of their case, at times without legal help, within a matter of weeks. [...] Some wet their pants when they have to go to court..."
NEW: The Trump administration is taking steps to accelerate the deportations of migrant children in US custody amid White House pressure to quickly move kids through the system, according to administration officials and lawyers for the children. https://t.co/PaJfzSnlzX
Essential reporting from @jazmineulloa and @mirjordan about the attempted dismantling of TPS headed to SCOTUS, but also this administration’s wider backsliding on US humanitarian commitments — featuring insight from @KrishVignarajah of @GlobalRefuge 👇

We asked them to risk their lives for us. They did.
We promised to bring them here. We haven't.
Now we're offering them the Taliban or the DRC.
I joined @MSNOWNews to talk about the 1,100 Afghan allies -- including 400 kids -- waiting to see if the US will keep its promise.
“This administration would take children — children our government has already fully vetted, children who grew up watching their parents serve our flag — and send them to one of the most dangerous places on earth.”

SUMMARY: On Jan. 20, 2025, Trump signed an EO purporting to ban all asylum for people who cross the southern border and ordering DHS to simply turn people back without going through normal removal processes set forth under the law.
The D.C. Circuit agrees that this was illegal.
After the Baltimore Key Bridge collapse killed 6, the Biden admin encouraged 30 loved ones to apply for temporary protection from deportation. Zoila was one. But this month DHS denied her application and started deportation proceedings.
