“I’m taking you at your word, Joan. They’re armed out there, and I don’t think the world would miss you if they emptied a few clips into you.”

She glanced at the camera in the corner, smoothing out her dress as she did.

“I came because while my sister is too busy having her strings pulled, I don’t want to see you in here.
It’s beneath you. A woman of your station, of your… history. In here? Horrific.”
The lady glanced at the camera again, her hand tensing.
Stiletto heels came to a halt, a clean four feet from the bars of the prisoner’s cell.
“You know, I rather think the prison jumpsuit suits you, Joan.”
Her voice was simpering. Cloying.

The guard held out a hand, careful not to touch Sophia, but firm all the same.

“Third on the left. Wave to the camera and we’ll let you in. You get ten minutes”
Sophia shot him a look, eyes darting to the was of bills.

She smiled, heels clicking as she walked past.
The cell block was empty but for her intended visitee.
