How many Nobel Prizes have IIT graduates won?
Zero.
How many Nobel Prizes have Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda graduates won?
One.
In 75 years of IITs' existence. 300k+ graduates. 0 Nobel Prizes.
And the man who got the Nobel had failed the IIT entrance exam and then failed CMC Vellore's medical entrance the same year.
So he did a BSc in Physics at Baroda, finished before 19, took a PhD at Ohio, then restarted as a biology student at 27 after completing the entire physics PhD.
Then, two decades of staring at one unglamorous molecule later, in 2009, that work on the ribosome won him the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. In 2015, the Royal Society elected him President.
That's Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, the guy who was rejected by IITs in the early 1970s.
IITs excel at what they were built for: technical execution. But execution isn't discovery. You can't hyper-optimize your way into the unknown research.
Until India learns to celebrate 20 years of unglamorous curiosity over 2 years of JEE prestige, the Nobel drought won't break
(Speeches, Statements and Messages of the Quaid-e-Azam، جلد دوم، صفحہ ۹۷۳)
The so-called “calculator riots” of 1986 serve as a powerful reminder that today’s anxieties about artificial intelligence replacing human thinking are far from new.
In April 1986, a determined group of math educators staged a vocal protest outside the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) annual convention in Washington, D.C. Led by influential textbook author John Saxon, demonstrators carried signs declaring, “The Button’s Nothin’ ’Til the Brain’s Trained.”
They were opposing the NCTM’s new recommendation to incorporate electronic calculators into mathematics education at every grade level, including homework and exams.
The protesters worried that reliance on calculators would erode students’ mental arithmetic skills, numerical intuition, and deep conceptual understanding, potentially creating a generation of “calcuholics” overly dependent on machines.
The NCTM countered that calculators would free students from repetitive, low-level calculations, enabling them to tackle more complex problem-solving and higher-order thinking. Ultimately, the debate led to a pragmatic compromise: students would first master core mathematical concepts and mental strategies before using calculators as tools for more advanced work.
This balanced approach allowed technology to enhance, rather than replace, mathematical reasoning.
Today, as schools navigate the rapid rise of generative AI, the 1986 calculator compromise offers a valuable blueprint: prioritize genuine understanding first, then thoughtfully integrate powerful new tools.
During Wimbledon 2010, Nadal, Federer and Djokovic were invited to meet the Queen of England.
Federer and Djokovic accepted.
Nadal declined the invitation to practice for his 2R match against Robin Hasse.

The FIFA World Cup is, no doubt, the biggest global single-sport tournament, with a quarter of all countries present. But if you go by population, the numbers are interesting.
The 20 countries that took part in the 2026 Cricket T20 World Cup have a population of 2.50 billion people.
The 48 countries that are taking part in the 2026 Football World Cup have a combined population of only 2.25 billion!
The gap would be more if Bangladesh hadn't dropped out this year - the combined population of countries playing in the 2024 T20 World Cup was a whopping 2.65 billion.
Obviously India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan contribute hugely to those numbers - but countries like Italy have also chipped in - present for the cricket T20 World Cup but not football!
It's also interesting that out of the top 10 countries by population in the world, only 2 are playing the FIFA World Cup - the US and Brazil! India, China, Indonesia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Russia and Ethiopia are all missing.
Having said that, it's certainly true that football is still the biggest global sport because virtually all countries in the world will watch this World Cup! Cricket would not be watched by the vast majority of nations.
"It’s not a problem. If you need something, take it. After the war you can pay for it." — a sign outside a small shop in Iran.
Wars reveal many things..... but sometimes, they reveal the best in people.
Pakistan seems to be in the Goldilocks spot of diplomacy.
It has a strong alliance with China with economic & militarily assistance.
At the same time it is a current favourite with the US under Trump.
It has a military pact with Saudi Arabia but Iran trusts it for negotiations.
Gies to show how America does its propaganda and its deceit and lies.
The same is happening today-Except the war is real and school children are being martyred by America.
So there is this movie " Wag the Dog" from the 1990's.
In it the President of the United States has been caught in a scandal.
With elections approaching, he hires a political strategist who hires a Hollywoid producer to conjure up a fake war with Venezuela to appease the Public
mention him or his contributions he gets his patriotism questioned. Same is the case with Ahmadis in Pakistan. Their contributions to Pakistan are second to none but the very mention of their contributions can have you slated as anti Pakistan and anti Islam.
