Tet Offensive: Battle of Saigon (1968) 🇺🇸🇻🇳

On January 31, 1968, Viet Cong forces launched surprise attacks across South Vietnam, triggering intense urban combat in the heart of Saigon.

One of the most dramatic battles unfolded at the U.S. Embassy, where Viet Cong commandos breached the compound before being eliminated by U.S. Marines and security forces.

U.S. and South Vietnamese troops fought block by block, backed by tanks, artillery, and helicopter support, to drive Communist forces from the city and restore control over key positions.

Although the offensive ended in a military defeat for the Communist forces, it became a major psychological turning point in the Vietnam War.

The Siege of Sevastopol (1941-1942) was a 250-day campaign where Axis forces (Germany and Romania) besieged the heavily fortified Soviet Black Sea port. The city fell on July 4, 1942, after a brutal, prolonged assault. The grueling battle cost tens of thousands of casualties and eliminated a critical Soviet stronghold.
