Recovery month is over, yet continues.
If you see someone with an addiction, challenge feelings of anger/frustration; channel instead sadness/hope.Let them know treatment helps. Medications work. Connection matters.
#celebraterecoverymonth, or celebrate recovery everyday โค๏ธ
Day 23:
"A year ago, I would have reacted differently"
Like a painter expands their color palate, he has expanded his feelings palate in recovery. He used to live in one color - red - anger. Today he described sadness, disappointment, and acceptance.

Day 22:
"I am very happy, honestly!"
In recovery from alcohol for > one year and depression has sizzled away. He stopped smoking cigarettes in April, and his taste buds are celebrating. He had thoughts of suicide when drinking, today he loves himself.

Day 21:

Day 20: โitโs been almost 5 years and it feels like the scarlet letter.โ
Despite achieving recovery from opioids and graduating college at the top of her class, she continues to experience stigma from her closest friends and family. #celebraterecoverymonth
Day 17: Patient: "Doc, I have a feeling that something good is going to happen; what is it?"
Me: "Itโs hope".
Persons with addiction often feel hopeless and alone. He did not know what hope felt like, until, in this session, we gave that feeling a name.

Day 16:
โI am thankful. I am grateful for not having to wake up feeling that way [in withdrawal] ever again. I donโt have to worry what I said to someone when I was drunk or high.โ.
He is in recovery from opioids for over the yrs, and longer from alcohol.

Day 13: We sometimes use words that have become a part of our everyday without realizing their impact. Let's bring dignity and humanity to those suffering or in recovery by putting them first. The more you know :)

Day 10:
โI looked in the mirror for the first time in years this week.โ
5 yrs since his last drink. He was so ashamed he couldnโt bear the sight of himself. About a yr into recovery he looked in the mirror and felt happy. This is the dignity of recovery.

Day 9:
"I saw a pill (oxycodone) bottle; I almost threw up. I am scared. I guess it's a good fear to have"
Fear stands for something powerful - "I don't want to use". This fear is a friend. We welcome it with open arms and embrace its role in recovery. #celebraterecoverymonth
Day 8:
โHow long does it take until you donโt feel like youโre going to be blown away by the wind?โ
One month free of alcohol. Some may think a month is not a lot- itโs more than a day. Itโs more than a week. Itโs a month of intentional change. Itโs a lot. #celebraterecoverymonth
Day 7: "Opioids don't cross my mind. Cravings for cocaine haven't gone completely away, but they're manageable. I have a little bit of a cold and he [dealer] lives so close... I haven't used."
Challenging the conditioned responses formed in addiction. #celebraterecoverymonth
Day 6: โI have a lot going on. Iโm not giving in. Not todayโ Early recovery is hard. Thereโs an imbalance between the need to seek acceptance and forgiveness from others and that of finding the same for themselves. The comeback is greater than the setback.
