When Cardi B visited Nigeria in 2019, during a media round, they wanted to force an identity on her. She quickly rejected it, stating clearly the name she has chosen for herself.

7 years later, popular online streamer , IShowSpeed (Darren Jason Watkins) visited Nigeria, and the similar forceful arrogating an identity happened again. He made affirmative statements suggesting he’s unlikely from the same place, and it was as if all hell was let open. His ancestry was disrespectfully questioned before the world. Comments like “we will check your ancestry” was terrible, and it reeks of desperation and low self esteem.

Your tribal identity is not something you should force foreigners to embrace, especially in a country with over 250 other ethnic groups. Your ingenuity, intelligence, and character should speak for you, and not forcefully shoving your tribe down the throat of strangers.

Allowing a repeat of such acts, will be utterly disgraceful. Allow foreigners to freely identify with the ethnic group they like, without being emotionally blackmailed. If you want to be identified with, let the content of your character and ingenuity speak for you.
