"NO DECISION ABOUT US WITHOUT US"🙏🙏
Yesterday, we stood side by side with the young people at Laroo Quarry site listening to their stories, witnessing their strength, and acknowledging the harsh realities they face daily.
In Uganda and across Africa, too many youths and children are forced into hazardous work like stone-breaking just to survive.
These are not just statistics they are voices, dreams, and futures at risk.
We are here to amplify those voices, challenge the systems that allow such injustices, and advocate for safer, sustainable opportunities for every child and youth. Change begins with awareness and it grows through action.
As we celebrate the vital role young people play in driving sustainable development. This afternoon We reflect on insights from young people with @TouchTheSlumUG with dedication to empowering youth and fostering their participation in decision-making processes.
Today we honor the courage of young people who carry the memory of past violence while building a peaceful future.
At Youth Advocacy Network, we believe remembering is healing.
By amplifying youth voices, we keep truth alive.

In 2012, Mark Zuckerberg bought Instagram for $1 billion.
People laughed. 😅
At the time, Instagram had no revenue, just 13 employees, and was basically a photo app for hipsters.
Analysts called it a panic move. Investors said he overpaid. The media drâgged him for it.
But Zuckerberg wasn’t pânicking.
Today, Instagram is worth over $100 billion and powers the attention economy!
Sometimes, the boldest moves don’t make sense… until they
Last weekend, we organized a multi-day retreat on Art and Belonging for youth and CBOW .
This gathering brought together young people to explore memory as a source of identity, healing, and transformation centering their experiences as powerful keepers of personal and collective memory.
Through guided creative processes, including body mapping and rivers of life ,participants engaged in deep reflection on their life journeys, their sense of self, and the stories they carry. These activities provided safe, expressive spaces for participants to trace both the visible and invisible parts of their lives mapping not just memories of the past, but the hopes and directions for their future.
One of the most moving reflections came from Atala Mercy ,who shared:
“Memory is like a worm turning into a butterfly. That’s the transformation memory should look at.”
This metaphor became a guiding image for the retreat: memory not as a wound to conceal, but a source of growth, beauty, and becoming. Like the butterfly, transformation through memory requires time, care, and the right conditions to emerge fully.
As one participant reflected after completing their body map:
“Seeing my story on paper helped me understand who I’ve been, and who I still want to become.”
Another, after sharing their river of life drawing, said:
“Some parts of my life have been stormy, others calm but the river keeps flowing. I’m still moving forward.”
This retreat affirmed that when young people are trusted with the work of memory, they respond with wisdom, creativity, and extraordinary strength. They remind us that memory is not only about the past it’s also about shaping how we live today, and how we build the future.
We are deeply grateful to every young person who participated, and to the community that made this space possible. Your stories and your art are now part of something much large a living archive of hope, healing, and transformation.

Modern history often revolves around political inclusion and exclusion how certain groups are remembered or erased, and how these narratives shape national identity and citizenship. It’s a constant struggle over whose story gets told and who’s left out
Young people are the heartbeat of change.
It's time to empower the next generation to lead, create, and innovate.
Together, we can build a future that reflects our dreams and potential.
