Congratulations to our undergraduate research assistant Sanaa! Over the summer Sanaa participated in The Irvine Summer Institute in Neuroscience, a National Science Foundation REU.
Sanaa worked with Dr. Aaron Bornstein, looking at how neuropsychological batteries and computational cognitive behavioral tasks map onto each other in order to reconcile the different approaches of measurement.
Robyn Douglas, a 3rd year Ph.D. student in Youth Rising lab, was awarded a Ford Foundation Pre-Doctoral Fellowship to support her research and goal of becoming a community oriented researcher, educator, and clinician. Read more here! https://t.co/VnqgQcwkcW

For our last lab meeting of the semester we reflected on all of our moments of celebration, joy, and hopes for the future of our work. We are forever grateful for our growing community of activists, healers, and scholars.
Additionally, feelings of self-blame should be an area of focus for understanding how Black youth reflect and internalize fault with past traumatic losses caused by community violence. #YouthViolencePreventionWeek
For our final research spotlight, we have "Exploring the Moderating Effect of Social Support & Self-blame on
Traumatic Loss and Grief in Black Adolescents" by research assistant Hadeel Hamdan, B.A, Robyn Douglas, M.A, Alirma Davis Leslie Eguizabal, & Noni Gaylord-Harden!
This year for #NationalYouthViolencePreventionWeek Youth Rising Lab is spotlighting recent research projects from our amazing undergraduate and graduate lab members. We are grateful for their continued efforts to uplift generations of violence-exposed youth.
As such, research should study the influence of one’s social support/network and experiences with processing and/or coping with trauma related to community violence.
