@darrengrimes Every few hours you seem compelled to find something to whinge about, to distract us from the fact you got caught wanking in public. Maybe you should just quit both twitter and wanking in public? It's not healthy to be as constantly upset as yr TL implies you are.
@Jay27032649@peterhook I do agree that Dublin has some sick venues, awesome in-house crews and atmospheres that I'll take over the acad any day. Bloody love Whelans. Shame Mr Hook only seems capable of playing concession rooms lately.
@Jay27032649@peterhook Oh aye what UK academy do you "pay the seller"?! What does that even mean? What fests are still distinguishing between hards and softs, and doing 10%? Specific names of venues and festivals to prove yr not pretending plz, cos this sounds like yr confusing 2020s and 1980s to me.
@NeilWaterboys@peterhook@3olympiatheatre Plz note I'm not debating whether 25% is justified, just pointing out that it's been the norm since I remember, and is a standard part of the show contract for acts going thru AMG venues etc. Can't say whether or not it's 'fair' without knowing the numbers on the rest of the deal
@Jay27032649@peterhook@3olympiatheatre 2019 I was last there, was there but it's a few pence per ticket sold iirc. All academies and arenas have been 25+vat for actual decades. Better than most theatre venues who charge 10/15/20% and aren't even concessions; can pay 4 figure sums just to rent a table in the foyer..
@TraveltheGroove@peterhook@3olympiatheatre No worries. not the best forum for the nuanced transparent debate this subject needs. Livenation, Spotify, iTunes, 360 deals; all more insidious deals that eat into artist £ more than venues ever will. But bands can't slag them off without career damaging repercussions
@TraveltheGroove@peterhook@3olympiatheatre Idk what that implies but I am generally on whichever side means bands + venues can stay alive together. Bands who don't like concessions play elsewhere and that's how we force change/parity; not saying 'yeh I'll do the gig but imma bitch on the internet about the bits I dislike'
@TraveltheGroove@peterhook@3olympiatheatre I would put money on the fact he deleted that tweet cos his agent was like, dude wtf you agreed the £ and signed off on these shows months ago
@TraveltheGroove@peterhook@3olympiatheatre Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying 25% (of which, around 20 generally goes to the venue and 5 to the concession co to provide everything) is fair, but it is such standard, common and normal practice that agents use it to negotiate up the fee.
@TraveltheGroove@peterhook@3olympiatheatre So the venue should provide a seller, card machine, shop space, display and lights, for free? Why doesn't he just play a venue that doesn't charge if it's such a problem to him?
@NeilWaterboys@peterhook@3olympiatheatre I have being doing this for 20 years and I can assure you it is. It's my literal job to go thru these contracts pre tour and work out costs to the bands I work with. 25% has been standard since the 80s, artist's agents know this and use that projected loss when negotiating fees.
@teej63@peterhook@3olympiatheatre They frequently do. All them shows that only half sell but the venue has to cover full artist fee as well as local crew and house staffing and venue costs. D'you think AMG pay that out of their generosity pot?
@peterhook@3olympiatheatre Mostly tho, if you have ever had illegally downloaded a song, you lose high horse rights on how artists, venues, the whole delicate ecosystem makes it's money.
@peterhook@3olympiatheatre There are always alternative venues and most artists who object play those rooms. PH has signed a contract and is now whinging about the bits that don't suit him, for publicity. It's impossible to know if the show deal is "unfair" without seeing the rest of it.
@St_Victoriana just walked up to yr Pioneer and the music started playing! So cool, thank you. Wish more people would create whatever weird combo of art piece/history lesson/AR app this is
@kaptinhansum Promotor for a show on an EY tour once told us they hadn't put up any posters cos they were "kinda DIY like that". Idk if that implied they were too lo-fi for paper or we were supposed to have gone and done it ourselves.
