The best way to explain media illiteracy is: people don't engage with art anymore, they strictly consume it. Nobody wants to read into a character's complexity, if someone didn't like the ending to a show suddenly the entire series was terrible; you want to look, not connect.

@pepsionthehouse FE7 was my first FE. I love it very much but it is not a perfect story that is for sure (a lot of Deus Ex Machina)
