This is great. Lesson Africa must do things in our own way. UNDP wants to adopt Borneo model on humanitarian but the problem is tomorrow some African leader will still understudy this model as if it’s own by a white man. Kudos Prof.Zulu
UNDP Hosts Zulum in Geneva as Sec-Gen wants Borno’s Humanitarian Model Adopted by UN
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has hosted the Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Zulum, in Geneva, Switzerland, for discussions over resettlement of internally displaced persons and their livelihoods.
The meeting, held on Thursday, focused on “IDP solutions plans” with specifics on “Government leadership, community driven approach and voluntary return, relocation & integration.”
As part of the meeting, Secretary-General of the UN, expressed his desire for the UN to adopt Borno State's successful humanitarian model.
This was disclosed at a meeting hosted by the Centre International De Conference (CICH) hosted by the Office of the Special Adviser, William Chemaly.
The Borno Model is a non-kinetic approach aimed at handling counter-insurgency efforts and addressing humanitarian crises for over one decade.
Governor Zulum, at the meeting, highlighted the successes achieved in Borno State through the implementation of his administration's novel approach to the humanitarian situation tagged “Borno Model”.
Zulum had previously attended a breakfast Strategic Country Update on North East, Nigeria, organized and hosted by the famous Graduate Institute, University of Geneva.
The governor engaged over 20 academics, humanitarian, peace, security, and development actors, think-tanks, and researchers analyzing Borno’s practical experiences on the Boko Haram crisis and how the non-kinetic approach yields results.
The UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Mohamed Yahya, spoke while the Nigerian Ambassador to Geneva also made presentation on Nigeria’s stand.
Zulum also attended meeting at the UN Palais hosted by Raouf Mazou, the Assistant High Commissioner Operations at the United Nations High Commission on Refugees.
The governor was accompanied on the trip by Borno’s focal person for the World Bank’s Multisectoral Recovery and Peace Building Project (MCRP), Babazanna Abdulkarim, Principal Secretary at the Governor’s Office, Barrister Mustapha Busuguma and the Governor’s high-level associate on Sustainable Development Partnership and Humanitarian Support, Dr Mairo Mandara.
An aerial view of the work going on at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA).
According to the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, this is not a refurbishment but a total redesign and rebuild of MMIA. The project will take 22 months and is expected to be commissioned by President Tinubu.
Though not part of the current construction, the administration is also working on extending the Red Line train so people leaving the airport can take the train directly to the Ikeja bus stop.
When all of this is accomplished, it might just be the biggest achievement and most beautiful infrastructure project completed under President Tinubu.

For me, it's the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
And I say this because many people hear "coastal highway" and think it's just another road project. It's far more than that.
On Section 1 alone (47.7km from Victoria Island to Eleko), we're looking at about 10 elevated structures - flyovers, interchanges and underpasses because the corridor passes through already built-up areas where traffic must continue to flow seamlessly.
Beyond Lagos, the project becomes even more ambitious. The highway will traverse some of the most challenging terrains in Nigeria, especially across Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states, where wetlands, creeks, floodplains and unstable coastal soils present enormous engineering challenges.
The Badagry-Sokoto Superhighway is equally audacious because of its sheer length and the economic corridor it seeks to create across multiple regions. But from an engineering standpoint, much of the terrain is comparatively less challenging. What stands out there is the scale, ambition and political will required to execute it.
As for the reconstruction of MMIA, it's a necessary and important upgrade, but largely a modernization project, something many would argue should have happened years ago.
All three are significant, but if we're talking about engineering complexity, economic impact and the potential to redefine Nigeria's coastline and connectivity for decades, my pick is still the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's four (4) Legacy Highway Projects:
- Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
- Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway
- Calabar-Abuja Superhighway
- Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Road Corridor
Transformative investments collectively touching every geopolitical zone, designed to strengthen connectivity, expand access to markets, advance national integration, and unlock jobs and economic opportunities.
Importantly, beyond their economic value, they are vital investments in national unity.
There are many other road projects being developed nationwide under the infrastructure program of the Renewed Hope agenda -- with these four as the flagship ones.
Princeton University’s Innovations for Successful Societies (ISS) program used to track and curate transformational leadership at the subnational level in Nigeria.
4 Nigerian transformative leaders were featured. Bola Tinubu, Donald Duke, Babatunde Fashola and Ahmed Makarfi.
Donald Duke was far ahead of his time. He saw Tinapa, Obudu ranch, clean and green Calabar, and civil service reforms.
Bola Ahmed Tinubu saw the Free trade zone, Eko Atlantic, Tax and institutional reforms, Judicial reforms, civil service digitization.
Obi had nothing in his mind apart from saving money in his bank, and investing state funds in a family beer business. Nothing transformative up till this day can be linked to him.
Igbos have contributed to the development of Lagos, yes, just like every other tribe; But Lagos has also given back to the Igbos who reside there. If the state wasn't so welcoming and profitable, people won't be relocating there in large numbers. Facts!
That said, the state belongs to the Yorubas 100%, point blank period; It is located in the South-West making it geographically a Yoruba Land, and historically speaking it is also a Yoruba land. Lagos doesn't even share borders with the South-East so the claim of ownership is invalid.
Now Illbliss asks "why is it always a problem when it's the igbos?" and that's a good question; The anwser is quite simple, people like him make it an issue by trying to claim Lagos forgetting that it is not in their rights to do so. You can't be loud and disrespectful and expect positive energy.
Before you attend the next podcast of ignorant folks:
OBIdients: Peter left N70 billion behind as Anambra Governor to his Obiano his successor....
FACT: Gov Obiano the successor said Peter Obi his predecessor left DEBT of N127 billion behind....
Common sense: Why didn't you pay the N70 billion so the N127 billion debt you left behind for Obiano would have reduced to N57 billion and it would be clear that you left a debt of N57 billion ONLY behind?🥹🥹
Did Obi leave extra behind or debt liability based on this available information?
Many have forgotten Toyin Okanlawon. Look for the front page of Tribune on July 9th, 1998. Like many in Abeokuta & Lagos, Toyin & friends celebrated the death of Abacha on June 8, 1998 cuz they felt Bashorun Abiola would finally get justice.
Alas! MKO died on July 7th, 1998 in detention & Toyin and his friends were enraged. They led riots in Egba & dared the guns of the Army. Sadly, Toyin was shot on July 8, 1998 along with 60 others in Lagos, Abeokuta & Ibadan as tears flowed everywhere. His lifeless body was on the front pages of international Newspapers which forced the Military to stop the shooting of Protesters.
Toyin Okanlawon & 60 others died while over 400 others were injured across Yorubaland for u to have this Presidency. It has taken us 30years to get true compensation via a June 12 man. Protect & cherish it!
