Unfortunately this has become the norm. The experience for us diehard players has become: Change parts of the game we are passionate about & found fun, get handed pointless new content with a side serving of big new bugs.
I really miss the beautiful simplicity of SoT
The game feels littered with bells and whistles. Every-time I get on the game it feels more cluttered, and the server performance seems like it’s struggling with all that clutter too.
It’s a trap so many game devs fall into. Having a popular game and feeling the need to throw more & more bells, lights and buckles on it to keep it interesting. Ironically that’s what pushes people away, because it turns out so tacky and messy.
There is an art to maintaining simplicity whilst also bringing new content. A good artist would advise you not to f*ck with the core movement & weapon mechanics 7 years into the game. Don’t mess with the paint, don’t change the canvas, don’t overdo it by painting more & more things into the picture. A good artist lets that painting rest, then moves onto a new painting to sit side by side in his gallery. In other words, leave the game alone, make new game modes on the side, outside of that main server… like arena…
If they really are working on Sea Of Thieves 2, we need Arena 2.0 with 3 different gamemodes:
1) Duel
- Just hourglass. It's cool being able to check the server in-between fights, but if they were instanced it would be a much smoother experience. No third-parties, no extra lag, no volcanoes, no world events. As soon as the match finishes, you insta dive. Everyone has the same supplies, no need to waste time gathering them. No cursed balls, no bonecallers, no cannon rowboats. Maybe add a time limit too.
2) Arena
- Same as before but the ship type cycles out every week. Solidify it into one queue so people can get into games faster. Keep voice chat in the lobby and game. The mute and report buttons exist for a reason. Seeing people you know and talking to them in the lobby was the most fun part of arena. Removing chat killed it.
3) Deathmatch
- TDM/FFA on random islands until 1 team (or person) gets x amount of kills. Maybe have spawn platforms to cannon to the islands. Maybe turn other parts of the map into TDM maps as well (reaper's lair, sea dogs, davy jones island, shores of gold, shrines, etc). Crew size cycles weekly as well.
They also need to add an option to pick which regions you want to queue for. I would queue for all of NA and EU to get instant queues if it was an option.
Have all 3 modes level Servants and Guardians with a bar showing which side is winning more. Maybe tie that into the lore during events.
Arena was the best place for new players to learn every aspect of the game. It needs to come back.
@Aeruled@LSylvr The current team gladly takes any help to get the new categories/updates on categories not even by joining the team but just by giving advices. Not everybody's up and active all the time so yes, there are delays on updates on runs.
@LSylvr Also consider that it's a small team of dedicated players taking care of it. They all have lives outside of that and can have delays with implementing things to the site.
@LSylvr Always ask the admins if you're not sure about something being a cheesy strat or not. Or when a new update comes out, if you notice something that could change the meta. They are absolutely always open to any comments/advices. That could be saving you a run or two someday.
The social heart of #SeaOfThieves will always be represented by “We Shall Sail Together”. It’s a shared world game, but it’s almost impossible to teach PVP - nothing tops the ingenuity of real players, but Safer Seas will allow players to learn the pace and flow of the game (1/2)
When are the real issues addressed with an anticheat and a better server situation? This would not be new content but will definitely bring back all the player base you deceived through the useless patchs like these.
