The name evokes warmth and community. Spanish for “a small cup of coffee,” “un cafecito” is part of many Latinos’ childhoods, Lemus said, and refers to the coffee that families will often have together as they “chitchat and unwind.” ☕

“We are the counterculture. While everybody is going to church, we have so many people coming to what they call ‘coffee church’ … getting caffeinated, talking ideas, dreams [and] philosophy.”

Right now, 64 firefighters + 1 mechanic are heading to California to help fight wildfires🔥🚒
They’re aiming to get to Malibu tonight.
“We support our neighbors bc we know at some point, we’re going to need the help, & we build those relationships.”
Their sendoff on @KSL5TV!
i mourne the decline of the magazine so much. sometimes you want to throw your phone aside and not read a book but a third thing and that was what the magazine was.
"We see this being really an incentive for arrests from local police stations and other sheriff departments to just find people who 'don't look American,'" said ACLU of Utah spokesperson Aaron Welcher. https://t.co/8lMUNRkq9D
This is hard. Tuesday was my last day at @KSLcom. I’ve been at a loss for words since.
If anyone knows of any job opportunities in journalism, social media or any related fields, I’d appreciate you sending them my way.
This is not a fun post to write, but for people who follow me here for local news I wanted to share that I have been laid off from KSL.
I've worked there for nine years, eight on radio and one on TV. It's sort of surreal that I won't get up each day and chase a story, chase a lawmaker, or hunt down a source. It's what I did for so long.
Thank you doesn't seem adequate to the people who have reached out with kind words, and to those who have supported me along the way.
And as one who often covered local politics, #utpol and the #utleg, there are people here who will undoubtedly celebrate this news. And that's okay. I'm very proud of the work I did.
I don't yet know my next move, or what this space will become and I'm okay with that too. I'm looking forward to what's possible. ❤️ Stay tuned.
Ashley's homeless coverage was terrific, especially as it has become a key issue in the state. She's great and anyone looking for a reporter would be wise to reach out
Yesterday, I was informed that my role was among those eliminated at https://t.co/PMnYX1Xxuj. I am incredibly saddened, to say the least. I am proud of the work I’ve done over the past four years and the trust given to me by so many to tell important stories.
Our readers didn’t see Yvette’s byline often but she played a key role in creatively telling our stories on social media, building maps and more. She also oversaw the popular holiday decoration maps we do every year.
Anyone looking for a creative mind would be wise to reach out
If you’ve ever been through layoffs (especially in this industry) and have any advice or resources to share, I’m all ears. I’m still processing the news and anything that helped you through it is welcome.
I’m extremely proud of the work I did and the coverage I was a part of at KSL over the last 7 years. I also have nothing but wonderful things to say about the talented team of journalists I worked with. Every one of them made me a better storyteller.
