Local journalism is a foundational element of a functioning and healthy democracy, and local journalists allow communities across North Carolina to rely on accurateinformation as residents go about their days and in moments of crisis.
It’s an honor to proclaim today Local News Day in North Carolina.
Today marks the 60th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed literacy tests, poll taxes, and other obstacles to voting. Black women like Patricia Roberts Harris, Vivian Malone, and Zephyr Wright (pictured) demanded full access to the liberties of citizenship.

This morning @SouthwestAir experienced a technical issue with one of their internal systems.
At the airline’s request, the FAA paused Southwest’s departures as they resolved the issue.
The pause has been lifted and their service has resumed.
