An anti-immigration march in Palm Ridge has turned violent after protesters attacked two foreign shop owners in what authorities have described as an act of mob justice.
The demonstrators allegedly confronted the pair at a spaza shop before they attempted to flee in their vehicle.
Protesters reportedly pelted the vehicle with stones, causing the driver to lose control and hit a pedestrian.
The two men were then allegedly assaulted by the crowd.
The victims were taken to Phola Park Clinic for treatment, while the injured pedestrian was transported to Thelle Mogoerane Hospital.
No arrests have been made, and the South African Police Service is investigating.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department condemned the violence, warning that vigilantism and attacks on foreign nationals will not be tolerated.
