@Nick_Charlton_ #UWJ201 #307 this is something that is very interesting to consider. While there are many positives that society could potentially benefit from AI, it is also essential to consider how people will handle the use of it in the future
@ally_wang4 #UWJ201 #307 I agree with this statement. After reading this week's content, it's really scary to think that my 'personal experience' viewing information was likely heavily influenced by algorithms without my knowing.
My heart is with the friends & family of George Floyd today
One verdict won't change an entire system, it won't eradicate the systemic racism embedded within our institutions
But, in the memory of George Floyd, it is one small step in the right direction

@marydaniels_@davalos#UWJ201 #301 I would say the VALS framework is more effective because it individualizes peoples' behavior and preferences on a more specific level. This allows for advertisers and researchers to gain a better understanding of their audience
@JosefnaLznikov1#UWJ201 #301 It depends on the product ie.) a makeup influencer sent beauty products will be much more genuine with their review. If the product clearly does not suit the interests of the influencer, their review may come off as vague and biased only because they've been paid
@LaurenAcker6#UWJ201 #307 I agree. We know persuasion in the media exists, but not always the full extent to which it influences our behavior. This is because some of the tactics communicators use are so subtle, making it difficult to be able to pinpoint the message's intentional persuasion.
@EricksonMakenna#UWJ201 #307 In terms of persuasion principles, I definitely come across a lot of scarcity-driven messages. A lot of company's and brands use this tactic, especially on social media platforms.
#UWJ201 #307 in today's lecture we learned about the 6 principles of persuasion. How does the media presentation (i.e) TV, Social Media, Online ads) influence the persuasion power of a message?
@livseesmore#UWJ201 #307 I think it depends on how passionate either party feels about a certain topic. In order to close the gap, there needs to be more conversation. Finding common ground is increasingly important, as liberals and conservatives are often able to agree in some areas.
@pete_bevington#UWJ201 #307 I agree, but I also think it's important to consider the context when a news source does not provide all information. The reason behind not immediately reporting all information could be due to a variety of other factors that do not involve malicious intent.
@pete_bevington#UWJ201 #307 I think many people tend to hold those with more influence (especially political leaders) with high regard and therefore are more likely to believe information when it is coming directly from those with higher status.
@EstelleXiao1#UWJ201 #307 I always try to find the source of where the information is coming from and make sure to fact-check the information across multiple different outlets. I also make sure that the information aligns with what other sources are saying as well.
