I wrote something for the latest open-access issue of Ethnoscripts about why the EU needs to learn more from the alter-globalisation movements and reject anti-globalisation impulses.

🔴 Note: There is a significant discrepancy in perception regarding how people of Iranian descent, both inside Iran and in the diaspora, contextualize the Israeli strike on the Islamic Republic's facilities — and how critically it is being reported. For 95% of us, it was neither surprising nor unexpected, nor did it require a formal declaration of war — despite the current stress. Moreover, the personnel and infrastructure losses of the #IRGCterrorists are being celebrated with joy.
If demonstrations do take place in the diaspora, organized by Iranians themselves, they will be directed against the Islamic Republic — not against the USA or Israel. There will also be no anti-imperialist references to the Gaza war or similar issues.
So leave your big flashlights at home and do not come to protests with projections. 95% of Iranians will not participate in demonstrations that contradict their narrative. That may seem illogical, but that is how the world is — and that is also how the #IranRevolution operates, in which we see the Islamic Republic as the primary enemy of the Iranian people and view everything else as a consequence of its existence, which must be overthrown.

Incredibly honored to receive the 2024 Doctoral Prize from Berliner Wissenschaftlichen Gesellschaft (BWG) & Erhard Höpfner Stiftung (EHS) for my dissertation "Sensing the Colonial Order of Things: Maasai Materialities and Ethnographic Museums". This recognition means a lot to me.
My text "Sensing the political: Activist sentiment in the European long summer of migration" is finally out (pm me for text if you don't have access). My take on the concept of the political and the pitfalls of "alternative humanitarianism" literature:
