I’ve had so much fun thinking through these slow tech ideas with colleagues, friends and practitioners! Here’s some of our thoughts about how to design tech with solidarity, pluralism and pragmatism in mind. Would love to know what you think!
#outnow How is contestation expressed on the Chinese internet? @ZRuichen explores 'socialist recoding' practices that negotiate the boundaries of censorship https://t.co/Wk6FryQy7J
A very small piece of work with a very simple argument about whether political memes are necessarily used for political implications in China. Hope you find it interesting as we do :) Thanks Dr Qin Gao for her editorial support!

@bbcchinese Curious how London would be like with 200mm rain per hour and more than 1,000mm rain in one day (FYI less than 100mm rain per day has caused more than 100 deaths in Germany last week). Hmmm sounds like London wouldn't have to worry about covid anymore lol
@pingpongpastry@AcademicChatter I think it may depend on the specific thing you want to cite and the academic level? For me, I remember my Peking University supervisor clearly said no citing Baidu unless there were absolutely no alternatives
The western narrative about Xinjiang is by far the most ridiculous one even among their very own countless lies about China...In their sense I’m probably also ‘coerced’ to do my PhD? Now can somebody please do me a favour and coerce me to publish a top journal article thanks
I'm so excited about this post! Got lots of help and support from the amazing editor @seaghkehoe! Hope more scholars will find these memes interesting and worth studying as I do!
Here it is! Our first new blog of the year and we love it!

Erasmus Brexit makes me feel really sad. I don't know how to describe how much my Erasmus exchange at @UniKent meant to me. In 2015 that was the only funded exchange opportunity for me. Studying in the UK has been my childhood dream, and Erasmus literally made my dream come true.
Erasmus means a ton to students across the continent in Asia. Lots of students in China like me cannot afford exchange studies in the UK. Erasmus gives them a chance to experience a different life and explore their cultural and academic interest.
Got a lot of messages from friends and family out of concern. That just felt so familiar. It's exactly what happened nearly a year ago when Wuhan went into lockdown😂
