I knew how Israel would behave in escalating its 75 year occupation and subjugation of Palestine by 9th October.

I explained what I expected to happen in my speech at the Labour Party conference and why we had arrived here on Newsnight later that evening.

A short while later we at @ICJPalestine wrote to politicians to warn them about the risk of complicity in war crimes because of their unconditional support for Israel’s purported but misconceived right to self defence.

I was not altogether right. What Israel has done is far worse than anything I could have predicted or imagined and I never thought Israel would cause the US, UK and West to shed their sheep’s clothing so decisively to reveal the wolves that are behind the the rabid hyena.

Now it is clear beyond doubt -

Israel is a settler colonial apartheid regime carrying out war crimes that have put it on trial for genocide.

It is supported by complicit governments and opposition politicians across the West that have gifted it impunity. If not complicit most Arab states have been cowered into fearful acquiescence.

Despite the murder and attempted annihilation of a group of people based on their race and religion we see the birth and rise of a global unifying movement of Muslims, Jews, Christians, in fact, people of all faiths and none who now recognise the true face of Israel and its allies and have mobilised in every quarter of the world to reject genocide, the squandering of our values and the destruction, abuse and misuse of the law based order.

It has exposed the double standards and hypocrisy of the west and cowardice of many Muslim leaders across the globe.

The global south collective is showing the way. And despite the threats, states such as South Africa have emerged as moral superpowers.

The behaviour of Israel and its allies are crushing the unilateral world and soon we will see the emergence of the multilateral world and rebalancing of power across the globe.

The failure of our institutions to protect us means that if we value our freedoms and in fact human life itself we must as the people’s collective grasp this movement with all our might and remove our corrupt leaders from their thrones of self interest and entrust power to those that promise to use it in the interests of people and protect the poor, vulnerable and weak whoever they are and wherever they are.

For months we warned that Israel’s aggression in Gaza would lead to a wider conflict.

Despite Israel’s unlawful attack on the Iranian embassy, Iran’s attack tonight will only act to escalate a completely unnecessary war.

The losers, as always, will be innocent civilians - this time across the Middle East including in Israel.

The international community has failed in the Middle East for decades by allowing exceptionalism and priority to selfish interests over the rule of law.

What we see now is the result of lawlessness and a failure to apply the law equally.

The answer is obvious and people have been calling for it for months. Ceasefire.

Iran and Israel (their allies and proxies) should cease all military activity and allow a negotiated settlement to their dispute - but this can’t happen if the international community continues on its path to show that might is right and those that posses the most lethal weapons will be the victor.

This is just the beginning - If this doesn’t end now it will only get much worse.

We must stop this madness.
