Apparently @ZUtALabs little Robotic Printer made an appearance on “Did I Mention the Invention” on CBS.
Flooded with messages.
Love it when our little device randomly appears on shows 😄
New prototype shells 🔥
The excitement of being a consumer hardware startup and getting to this stage of prototyping - when you’re fixing the final bugs - and ready to pack everything up into the shells and start showing it around 🤫🔥😄
I get asked this question so much - one of tech’s greatest questions - why are printers so bad & why has no company done anything…?
Short answer - big old incumbents afraid of themselves, and lucky to have an incredible “built in” moat.
However, @ZUtALabs is almost there! 😄
Why is building micro-robotics so hard?
You’re dealing with many disciplines - SW, HW, mechanical, navigation, tracking and more - and you gotta get everything to work together.
Just imagine finding a bug in such a system - it can be a tiny little piece that needs extra glue…
@MKBHD We've been hard at work on making a really small, innovative, cool & fun printer!
We're getting closer to getting through production - and it'll be here very soon!
And this is only the beginning for us!!
(yes, the robot in the gif is slow - it's just a gif 😆)
A great piece by Rachel!
Printers are the most frustrating & hated tech device - yet we need them. Like REALLY NEEED them.
They really are the neglected child of Silicon Valley.
Read this and you’ll understand why we’re on such an incredible mission here @ZUtALabs !
7\But other than that, I really don’t remember when was the last time I got excited about seeing or getting to use a new piece of tech…
And it’s a shame - because there’s so much that can be done.
There’s so much more to add to today’s consumer tech.
6\ It’s been a long time for me…
I have to admit, and I’m of course in no way objective here, but in way over a decade, the only time I felt that was seeing the @ZUtALabs printer print - it just starts running on the paper and prints out a full page.
Seriously Magical.
