The sad paradox of people wallowing in poverty while sitting on wealth is about to become a lamentable history. Peace, thriving businesses, jobs, and mega projects replace yesterday’s conflict, trade blockages, rampant unemployment, and marginalization.

Today, we officially handed over the model rural villages built through our Rainy Season Voluntary Scheme in the Halaba and Kembatta zones to their new residents. These villages mark a promising beginning in transforming the lives of our farmers. The houses are powered by solar energy, use biogas from animal waste for cooking, and include independent living spaces, toilets, and service quarters. Separate animal shelters have also been built, improving hygiene and living conditions. These Rural Corridor Villages will continue to expand as part of our vision to raise rural living standards. Over the past seven years, our Rainy Season Initiative has provided housing for those in need in cities. Now, through the Rural Corridors Initiative, we are extending this progress to rural areas. I encourage individuals, corporations, and members of the diaspora to support and participate in these efforts to enhance farmers’ livelihoods.

I also commend the leadership who completed the Hambericho Mountain stairs. a challenge I set during my last visit, accomplished impressively through local initiative in a very short time. Looking ahead, I urge local leadership to expand these model villages to 100 houses per zone by next year through collaboration with various stakeholders.

Organized a farewell dinner for a
Volunteer medical team from Saudi Arabia, sponsored by World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), who conducted life-saving surgeries for 270 patients in six days in Jigjiga. On behalf of myself and the people of the region, I expressed my heartfelt gratitude for the help they provided to patients in dire need of medical attention.

The design of the new Jigjiga Mall, to be built in the old Taiwan Market destroyed by fire in 2023, is unveiled. This modern Mall, to be realized through a Public Private Partnership, will be among the biggest and most modern in the country and East Africa, and will position Jigjiga as a major business hub.

Improving service delivery requires, among other things, availability of adequate work spaces and facilities. Building offices for various key institutions was one of the tasks accomplished since the 2018 Reform. Among the offices built: Somali Regional State Parliament Office, Finance Bureau Office, Revenue Bureau Office, Prosperity Party Regional Office, Trade & Transport Office, Mines Bureau Office, Irrigation Bureau Office, Innovation & Technology Bureau Office, Auditor General Office, and Zonal Administration Offices for all 11 zones of the regional state. Some more are under construction and expected to be completed this year.
