Not just spamming high screen & roll or swinging the ball around the horn for easy assists. Sick interior passing vision, creative finding cutters, beautiful drop passes, short roll spray outs. High feel hoops.

Some of the toughest shot-makers weโve ever seen, yet still managed to score well above league efficiency in a playoff setting, over a meaningful sample.
The Ajay-Shai lineup is honestly a blueprint for what works next to Shai.
Together: 125.6 ORTG, +9.4 rORTG, 60.8 TS%, 8.9 TOV%.
Shai without Ajay: 121.6 ORTG, +5.4 rORTG, 60.7 TS%, 11.6 TOV%.
Ajay without Shai: 115.8 ORTG, -0.4 rORTG, 59.8 TS%, 9.3 TOV%.
Neither one reaches the level they hit together because the skillsets are completely complementary. Shai bends the defense, while Ajay keeps possessions alive. He doesnโt hijack offense, doesnโt turn it over, makes quick reads, and keeps the floor organized without taking the ball out of Shaiโs hands.
Thatโs why I think Bennett Stirtz could be that fit on crack.
He brings the same turnover economy (84th percentile TO avoidance) and connective facilitation (74th percentile AST impact) that made the Ajay pairing work, but with even more spacing. Ajay had just a .30 3PR and shot 34.7% from three. Stirtz is an 83rd percentile shooter with 67th percentile 3PT volume, meaning defenses have to honor him far more often instead of helping into Shaiโs driving lanes, which we saw happen at a rapid rate vs. SA completely neutralizing Shaiโs scoring.
Thatโs the difference. Youโre maximizing Shaiโs overall creation. More spacing, another low-turnover decision-maker, another player who immediately punishes rotations. Thatโs exactly what OKC was missing against San Antonio when the floor shrunk around Shai, thatโs why Ajay being injured honestly made all of the difference in the world. Now imagine that around Shai x2, whew.
